3 weeks and frustrated

I am 3 weeks post op. I went grocery shopping yesterday and was in bed all day today. I have one good day and then I'm in bed for 2 days. My stomache is still very swollen....as a matter of fact, its very frustrating because it is bigger now than before I went into the hosp. I have terrible pain/cramps in my lower back and sides and lower right incision pain. I thought I would feel better by now. As I read all of your postings, I am finding out that I'm right on schedule for everything happening with me. Thank you for all of your encouragment.

Hi

Three weeks is really too soon to go grocery shopping ... I think you need to slow down a little. Are you doing too much on your 'good day' to then land up in bed for 2 days afterwards?

I still couldn't walk properly at 3 weeks. We're all different, but I'm sure your Dr wouldn't advise shopping trips at 3 weeks. There's no information as to what type of surgery you had. It was 3 months before I could get my normal jeans back on again, due to swelly belly.

You must take it easy as this will pay dividends later on ... especially as you have so much pain. Listen to your body! Be patient! The months will pass before you know it.

Take care.

I agree 3weeks post-op is too soon to do shopping. You are just going to delay your recovery because you are not giving your body the rest it needs now to recover. Just be patient and sit it out for your 6 weeks, i know it is frustrating, but believe me in the long run it is worth doing very little at this time of your recovery. Keep well.

You have good days and bad for sometime. I go back to work for the first time since 24 June which is when all my problems started today and I am still having issues at times. Naturally, the days get better and better but just this weekend I have had stomach pain which I had talked to the doctor about on Friday and it was determined is just muscles still recovering in my stomach. It is going to take awhile for everything to get back in shape. Don't do more than you have to. I went to the grocery store at 3 weeks and picked the groceries out, but hubby was there to pick them up, take them to the car and the teenagers at home put them away. Feel better soon

3 and 4 weeks was the absolute worst for me. Seems that it hits a lot of us this way. Don't know why. You start to feel better mentally and probably any other situtation in your life you had reached a point where you were ready to resume normalcy, but this is so completely different. That stuff inside is really just beginning to heal up and it saps the energy right out of you. This was the time that I actually started to feel "pain" or "pressure" in my lower abdomen and back. Up until then I was pretty much just sore and worried about the stuff I could see on the outside.

3 weeks and frustrated

Good Morning,
Thanks for all the info, I had TAH on Aug. 12. I have lots of pressure in my belly behind my incision and sometimes even higher when I'm up for too long. It is frustrating sometimes. In my head I know I am right on schedule with healing, but I guess I thought I would feeling better by now. But then I remember how bad I felt just two weeks ago I am very thankful for how much better I feel today.
Luckily I've had a lot of help around here from my DH and kids. What they don't get to I just try to ignore.
Hope you all have a restful day!

3 weeks and frustrated

My DH keeps reminding me that blood loss(which is usually alot with this surgery )makes us very weak. I went to the store but my hubby pushed the cart while I pointed at what I wanted. I took a long nap when I got home. It was so nice though to get out. I'll be 3 weeks post op on wednesday and still don't have the energy to go anywhere by myself. Plus if we can't push a cart, what's the point? I've been window shopping online just to make me feel like I'm doing something...If you're not taking Iron supplment, a sk your Dr. about that. Maybe it will help. Best wishes....

Between 3 and 4 weeks is very difficult. I also had a hard time. I felt well enough to do things, but then I would pay later with the swelling and achy feeling. I'm going in to my 5th week here and I am absolutely exhausted today. I'm so happy that my kids went back to school today, because I need a nap.

Take it easy and it is going to take a while to heal.

I am also 3 weeks and as I told my husband this morning..............bored with myself and doing nothing. Due to several complications my doctor has me continuing with more stringent restrictions for 2 more weeks. I did go to the grocery store yesterday. Our local Meijers has those eletric scooters. It was kinda fun to scoot around the store with DH chasing me with a basket grabbing the things I would point out. After almost 4 weeks of being cooped up in the house even the grocery store was "an outing". I took a nap while they carried everything in and put it away.
