Ovary Size???

I'm not sure what's normal. But my ultrasound showed that my right ovary was 2.91 x 1.82 x 3.60 cm with no real problems. My left ovary had a large cyst and complex cysts and was more than twice as big as right ovary: 4.83 x 3.07 x 3.14 cm.

I found this on the web:

Normal Ovarian Size:
In general, Post-menarchal ovaries measure 2.5-5 cm in length, and 1.5 to 3 cm. in width and depth. Because of the ovary has a variable, usually oval shape, size is best expressed as an estimated volume.

Ovarian Volume is estimated as:

Volume (ml.) = Length (cm) x Width (cm) x Depth (cm) x 0.52
Using this formula, normal ovarian size is generally

Pre-pubertal = 0 to 8 ml.
Post-pubertal = 0 to 18 ml
Post-Menopausal = 0 to 8 ml

The Ratio of larger to smaller ovary should normally be less then 2:1

So in my case, right ovary = 2.91 x 1.82 x 3.60 x .52 = 9.914 (normal for pre-menopause) and left ovary = 4.83 x 3.07 x 3.14 x .52 = 24.21 (out of normal range).

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need assistance figuring the volume sizes of your ovaries.
