My doc is a jerk!

Ok, I go in for my 2 week check yesterday, my bp was 190/125, I treid to explain the following to him:
1) The vomiting just stopped monday and my BP meds more than likely were not being taken properly because of this.
2) I have not been good at montirng my BP since the surgery (duh - other pain to deal with)
3) The pharmacy was out of my increased dose of BP med until yesterday, meaning the doses that I *did* keep down were the lower dose prescribed and we already knew they were not effective.
He wouldnt stop chastising me and shaking his head long enought to listen to me. His bedside manner is horrible! He only wants to hear himself talk and be mean to me! Then he calls out of the blue last night to ask if I had gone to my GP or the ER - uh, NO. I took my increased dose as prescribed, called my GP and he told me to follow up today, which I am doing. The surgeon then goes on and on about how maybe I should find a Dr. whose advice i can trust. After hanging up the phone, I was so mad that he treated me like a child, I sat there and cried! Can he dismiss me? or can I fire him and try to find someone else for folow up care? I think its pretty unlikely that someone would take over, he has no partners so I would have to go to a different practice. Any ideas?

My doc is a jerk!

I'd ask my GP if he could do my follow up care or refer me to someone who could. I don't blame you - you need sympathy now - not scolding. Hugs and Best Healing wishes to you.

My doc is a jerk!

I am sorry your dr. treated you badly my doc did the same thing to me, it feels very rotten!!! Maybe ask your gp if you can follow up post-op with him and explain to him how you other doc treated you. It is hard to fing another dr. to take care of you while you are in the middle of post-op. I found no other dr.s wanted to put their hands in other dr.s work.
Good luck on everything!!!

My doc is a jerk!

I called around and here's the thing, I cannot go to another GYN because the first one has been paid. A nurse from another practice told me very matter of factly that insurance wont cover any gyn after surgery because their fee includes post op care. She told me to "grin and bear it and find another doc after the 6 wk release" she also said she had heard of my doc and he has a rep for being rude to everyone after surgery. Wish I had known!

My doc is a jerk!

Skyegirton,
The next time you have an appointment take a friend or someone who will help you stand up for your rights when he is rude. There is no reason for him to act that way. Good Luck in your recovery.

My doc is a jerk!

Hi,
Sorry you were treated in such a condescending manner. It seems like the doctor was very worried and behaved badly. If you were already on pain meds and your BP was still that high, I would be worried too. Not necessarily high enough to stroke but with vomitting.......
He may have also taken it personally that you weren't able to talk to him about the vomitting and not keeping your meds for BP down. He may have had a bad outcome with a patient not taking meds properly etc too. Give the Doctor a chance to calm down, and bring a friend or relative with you next visit if possible.
After this visit, if you still don't feel the matter is resolved to your satisfaction, see about getting a new referral from your GP or call insurance company for any options.
Often times the postop visits are included in the first claim. Depends on your carrier.
Good luck sweetie. Hope you feel better soon!

My doc is a jerk!

Sky...

My doc was a huge jerk, too. And you probably do have to see him for your 6 week post-op.

In the meantime, consider him fired. Remember that you will not have to see him again after this. And, like others have said, bring someone with you to that last appt.

I pretty much tried not to engage with my doc at my last appt. I was doing pretty well, but then I lost it at the end and let him have it, 'cause I just couldn't let all that arrogance roll off my back. Trust me, my lack of restraint didn't do me any good. He was still a jerk and made me upset all over again.

Hope you are better than I was at not letting him get to you again . Just keep thinking that all that you really need from this appt is to know that you are healing properly from your surgery. And during that last visit, just keep saying (in your head) "You are *so* fired!"

Good luck!

My doc is a jerk!

Thanks ladies, I saw my GP today and he said he was very confused as to why the doc was acting so insulted. He listened to me tell my tale without interupption and then told me I was right, not taking my meds properly coupled with the vomiting AND the fact that they just changed my BP meds and had me in the hospital for 4 days in July to rule anything else out led to the BP being increased. He gave me my instructions (continue meds, follow up in 2 weeks) and told me what I had feared, I would have to tough it out with the Gyn until the 6 wks is up, he also told me at that time to try and find someone else. He did look at my incision and told me tub baths were fine now, I told him I did'nt want to call and ask the gyn after all the hoop-la.

My doc is a jerk!

After all you've been through, the last thing you need is this guy's attitude! Glad to hear you GP is much more caring. I'm sure you'll find a good gyn out there, there are some nice ones! (I've had very good relationships with female gyns, they never question it when you tell them how you feel, and I've never had an "arrogant" one yet!)

My doc is a jerk!

I guess I'm really lucky. My Gyn called me out of the blue to see how I was doing.
