I need sleep

I went to bed at 10:30, woke up at midnight and have been wide awake (but tired) since then (it is now 4 a.m.) This is the 5th night of this. I have not had any hormone changes, am still on 3.0 biest and 100mg progesterone - both creams. I was just starting to finally feel really well balanced - until this. I am starting to feel a little desperate here.

Does anyone have any ideas or experience?

I need sleep

I am balanced hormonally, but still dont sleep well. I tried ovaltine, melatonin, valerian, even Trazadone, which worked for a few weeks, but I am back to waking up at around 3 and not going back to sleep! I hope someone has another method, because I need sleep too!!! Laura

I need sleep

I have had some luck with the antihistamine, Benadryl. If the full dose is makes you too groggy in the morning, take half a dose. It is what is in Tylenol PM, but without the Tylenol.

I need sleep

Hi Kay!

I truly believe that I could be the "Poster Child" for post-hyst insomnia! I experienced it for the first time in my life when I had a TAH/BSO at the age of 50. Although my HRT effectively eliminated other surgical menopause symptoms like hot flashes, I still found myself awakening every night at 3:00 AM and not being able to fall back asleep. Six months after my surgery, I finally couldn't stand it anymore. I nearly caused two auto accidents in the space of one-half hour one afternoon, due to inattentive driving, which I feel was caused by my sleep deprivation. I saw my doctor the next day, and he prescribed Trazodone, which worked wonderfully for me. It is not a sleeping pill. My doctor does not "believe" in prescribing sleeping pills. You can do a google search on Traz and read about it. The bottom line is...it works well for many people.

Please see your medical provider and describe what you are experiencing. Persistant insomnia can be dangerous and unhealthy. You need to start sleeping well.

Many s and Best Wishes,
