Is this perimenopause?
I 'm 44 yrs old and had a TVH but saved my ovaries 3 1/2 months ago. I am not on hormones nor do I ever want to go on them if I do not have to. I looked at the menopause check list for this site and have had so many of the symptoms and have had them months prior to surgery. I asked both my gyno and general doc if I am perimenopausal and they say no. One said I was too young and the other said I was too moist inside to be. But then why all this crazy stuff going on with my body? I am so confused and know not what to do. My next unexplained problem is I am all of a sudden growing wider in my hips, butt and tummy but yet I have no weight gain. This just happened in the past 2-3 weeks. I can't get my pants to go past my hips, it's so depressing! I say it has to be either related to the hysterectomy or perhaps perimenopause, but the doc thinks I need to get more exercise because I am getting older. I'm not buying that. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Is this perimenopause?
Hi,
I am in my 50's and I remember in my 40's going through some of the symptoms and the widening and how hard it was for the pounds to come off . I understand from reading from several books on menopause and perimenopause, that the body slowly goes through this transition over several years prior to and through menopause years.
I had my hyst at the age of 54 and was having hot flashes, some joint problems, and pms symptoms about 2 years before my hyst and some symptoms longer than that.
I think eating healthy, exercise, getting sleep, taking vitamins, all help get you through this process a little easier.
You might want to read in our Resources library in the No-Hormone section and also the Menopause section as well. Here is the link: http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/link.php?
I hope this helps some.

why do drs tell their patients that??? i am 36 and 2 years ago i had 4 drs (male) tell me that i was too young, never mind the fact that i only have 1 ovary. My gyn(female) said that i was in perimenopause and put me on a low dose patch and i felt better that night. Men just do not understand, how can they? they are not a woman!!!

Thanks on the heads up regarding the resources. I will check them out ASAP. Seems like I have to do a lot of researching and educating on my own to sort through all of this. It would be nice if the doctors that went to school for this line of work would provide some answers. But they don't. I am glad that the patch has offered you some help whiteitan89. Looks like I need to seach for another doctor to provide some relief as well.

Is this perimenopause?
i am not on the patch now becausei was getting too much estrogen. so now i am on nothing except vagifem for the dryness. i flucuate almost daily and some days are better than others and some are worse. right now is the worse.it seems like i fly off the handle over stupid stuff that normally will not bother me and driving to town the other day i couldn't remember how to get where i was going. kinda scary. i am in a fog and am irritable and hot. i can't wait until winter gets hear. i will be glad when i finally go through menopause and don't have to worry about these symptoms anymore.probably another 10 years or more, my luck.

Is this perimenopause?
whitetitan89,
Sounds like you are going through the hormone thing too. I got no information from my doc at all with regard to my hysterectomy or what is happening to my body. He says I am not perimenopausal but then why I am having many of the symptoms? I am also confused about the ovary thing. I kept mine. The DR says that because I have my ovaries, I am not being thrown into early
perimenapause/menopause. Only women that get their ovaries removed go through sudden perimenopause/menopause. Then why do I have so many symptoms? I think he is handing me a brunch of bull. Seems like many women who post questions on this site regarding perimeopausal/menopausal symptoms have had their ovaries removed. I am just wondering if there are many women who kept their ovaries and are now forced to having perimenopausal/menopausal problems since their hysterectomies. Anyone are to reply? Till then I guess 'll have to do more research.
Thanks

Is this perimenopause?
you can do a search on here about who kept ovaries and ALOT of women who did are going through perimenopause. I also read on here a few yrs ago that if you keep 1 or both ovaries you have a 50% greater chance of going through menopause within 5 yrs. it has been 4 yrs for me so i am ready!!! i know i could easily go and get estrogen if i wanted it but the weight gain keeps me from doing it. I have lost 47lbs and i don't want to gain it back. Today has been a rough one... in the middle of talking to my mom i forgot what i was talking about and 2hrs later remembered. my kids are on my last nerve and i just want to cry.My dh wants to do it all the time and to me it is just a chore. one i could do without. i just have no desire for anything. no housework, sex,tv reading, nothing. i hate this. it seems like it is getting worse and i guess i need to go to my gyn before my insurance goes up. i hope you can find a dr that will listen to you and your symptoms instead of their books they read.

Is this perimenopause?
Busy O Me, 44 is not too young to start perimenopause. I'm 44 also and have been having symptoms for about 2 years before my hysterectomy. My dr said that it's unlikely that I'm in perimenopause, but my symptoms tell me otherwise. And I know what is going on in my body. The perimenopause can last 8-10 years, so that would take you up to 52-54 which would be the average age of meno.

Is this perimenopause?
I'm so glad I found this site. I am getting so much wrong info from the doctors. It's nice to hear that there are others out there that are going though the same things I am going thru so these are not flux things happeneing to me with no explaination. I just registered with this site in the last week, so it is going to take me some time to learn how to navigate, post and research. I'm not computer savvy. Just this thread is helping me to be reassured that this is not all in my mind.
My biggest issue is in the past month is that I spread so much that I can't even get a pair of pants to go on past my hips! And this is important to note; I did not gain any weight after my hysterectomy 3.5 months ago. So why did this happen? Is this typical? Will I go back to the normal size? (I highly doubt my hips will shrink.) Two doctors said this has nothing to do with the hysterectomy and that I need to get more exercise. Heck I am on my 12 hrs per day getting a work out. Really there logic makes no sense. Still doesn't explian why I spread so wide with no weight gain. It makes no sense.
Today has been a particularlly hard day. I had to go through my closets and try on clothes and pack away anything that does not fit. I had to get rid of 34 pairs of jeans, dress pants and suits. There is NOTHING LEFT! I don't have a pair of pants to my name! I haven't even gotten to my dresses or shorts yet. I can't. It's been too painful. I cried like a baby & still am as I type. That's over $1000 in pants alone-Gone. And another $1000 to replace. That's the monetary aspect. The emotional one you can't put a total on. I just feel like checking out of this world. My hubby hasn't a clue why I would be so upset. I'm so tired of waking up & having to add yet another unexplainable thing to the list of unexplainable things that I can't even deal with now. Then you have all the other things in you life to deal wih. Last weekend was the 1 year anniv. of my daughters rape and horrible car accident. Not an easy thing for a mom to go thru. Depression is setting in AGAIN. I wish this all would end. It seems like everything is controling me and I am helpless to change anything. I get no reasonable answers as to why, what to do, no support. I'm just left to deal with it all. I feel like I'm drowning and that life ring is drifting further and further away.

perimenopause
I have a great gyno. He is the one who told me I was in perimenopause. I have been going through it for a couple of years now. I am 44 now. My family history shows the women in our family started their periods at early ages ( approx. 10) and all have gone through menopause early. My grandmother was 50 when she was through with it. I am now waiting for the big phone call on the surgery date. I will be having a TVH, blatter sling and rectocele repair. I have decided to keep my ovaries (unless unhealthly). I believe you know your body better than the doctors and know how you feel.
