Lack of apetite

I am one week from having a LSH and was able to keep both ovaries. Still tired alot. Have to go back to work next week, maybe. I was wandering if anyone has experienced not being very hungry. I will get hunger pains and eat but I eat very little. Sometimes I'm not even hungry but eat b/c I know I have to. Try to wean myself off of the pain meds. Just wandering if this is normal. I go see the dr next Thur, and will ask him about it.

Lack of apetite

1 week TAH here. I have same problem. I will crave something even, then, when i get it, I take a few bites and I'm all done.
From the feed back I get here, it last a couple of weeks then will come and go for a while. Good luck. I'm just enjoying the weight loss.

Lack of apetite

Yep, I remember having a very small appetite the first couple of weeks post op. All I could really handle was broth soups and crackers. No big dinners. I basically snacked small amounts throughout the day.

I believe the lack of appetite results from the anesthetic that is still floating around in the body. Plus the fact that the pain tends to lessen the desire to eat. And often pain killers can suppress appetite. And let's not even discuss the bowel issues! That alone puts most of us off eating anything!

Lots going on to affect the tummy grumbles! Or lack there of. Most of us have our appetites return within a few weeks. A lot of sisters lose a few pounds during this time.

It is important to get some nutrition in you as you recover so I recommend bland foods and little amounts. Clear soups and crackers, light cereals with a little milk, rice, toast with jelly, etc. Plus the fibre in some of these foods helps to get the "plumbing" rolling!

Hope you are taking care of yourself and I wish you happy healing!

This sounds exactly like my experience. I was told it is normal. I was getting hunger pains so bad that I would have to eat, but I wasn't hungry at all. I still get the hunger pains, but my appetite has returned. It is still not where it was pre-op, but I am okay w/ that.

Lack of apetite

Same here. I the first few days I was starving as I had been a few weeks with just applesauce (long story), but since then, I really don't have much of an appetite. I still crave light foods like jello and broths (though DH has yet to find the broth I want).

To too planed to return to work next week. I'm hoping that I still can as I don't have any leave left.

no appetite

I am 3 days post-op. Had everything removed. I have no appetie and when I do eat, I can't keep anything down. I had to stop taking the pain meds until I can keep food down..That is certainly no fun...I didnt realize it would feel this awful...I have decided I am not the supergirl I thought I was..

I was planning to ask about low appetite and nausea tonight too! I am 3 weeks post-op from a total abdominal hsyerectomy. Iread your messages all the time - you have all helped me SO much...thank you! Donna

yes, I started getting pain and swollen when I started increasing activity. I tried to increase my walks and it laid me up for three days. Even some bledding. I guess I have to take it slower than some. But I feel much better when resting. I too get nauseau once in awhile. Its seems its earlier in the day though. But supper, I'm enjoying a good meal. I only lost 4 lbs.
