Sever Bowel Pain 9dys post-op
My dr is out of town this week (figures) and so I was sent to ER and of course, there was nothing they could do but send me home.
I'm having sever lower left abdominal pain that radiates along the pelvic bone to the right. This is a constant pain that is further aggravated by BM's. I had hoped that it was part of the issues that brought me to the decsion to have a hyst, but sadly is not.
The hyst is still the best decision as it did remove a good chunk of the pain. It's just that lower left pain that has me in tears again. The only thing that will help for the pain is duragesic patches combined with low dose Percocet.
I just don't know what to do anymore. I can't live like this.

I had pain on my left side especially the first 2 weeks, but they removed my left ovary. I know the BM's did not help and if your constipated it makes it twice as bad. Did they suggest Colace or a suppository to ease you into a bm? The Colace and lots of prunes helped me immensely with bm's and less pain. Seems when you strain it's twice as bad. Also, I have colitis which flared up but seems okay now as long as I eat bran and prunes. Hope you feel better!

RinAK, I was just over in the pre-op forum and someone there was talking about something that sounded similar to your pain -- I think they called it pelvic congestion? Apparently not all docs are up on it from what this sister was saying. The title of the thread was 'lower left abdominal ache'...
Hope this helps some.

I'm sorry to hear that you are in such severe pain without your doc around. I've been there and I understand that no ER doctor has any clue where to start. The pain could be many things- adhesion, bowel obstruction, appendix, or it could just mean that you may have overdone things. If they didn't do an ultrasound to check, I'm sure your doctor will when he returns. This would show if it was a bowel obstruction, but ultrasounds rarely show any adhesions.
You're still very early on in recovery. This may be something that will resolve itself. I'm at 2 months and still am in horrible pain when I have bowel movements. I've read that your bowels can act up for 3 months from all the aggravation.
I hope you find an answer soon! Please take it easy!

Sever Bowel Pain 9dys post-op
Wow Rinthis is odd, I too am 9 days post-op today and all day I was having an odd pain different then normal, but I had quit my pain pills and was just trying Ibuprofen so I thought maybe that was why I felt more pain then usual, but after dinner I felt like I was going to throw-up, but then it changed to a feeling that I needed to go the bathroom and wowie!!!!!!!!! I was in there for over an hour having one of my "acute colitis" attacks right now my whole abdomen and torso feel like a truck ran over me!!!! I am having shooting pains left and right and it feels like a knife is going up inside me! Hey this is fun huh? LOL hopefully this gets better!

I've been taking Colace 3x a day since surgery. Snacking on Prunes somewhat. Anyway, this pain was present before surgery. I had hoped that it would not return after. I was sorely mistaken.
Thank you for your replies. I can't wait to talk to my dr. She is a wonderfully compassionate listener, so I know she'll help me through this.
Monday can't get here soon enough. I can't believe that I'm already counting the hours and minutes until I see my dr. I thought I was over this.

hmmmm....just looked up pelvic congestion syndrome. Sounds plausible and more important, appears fixable!!
I'll be printing off all that find and taking it with me to appt. With as many times as my dr. has been in my pelvic cavity with a scope, she should at least remember what the veins looked like.
Thanks!
Rhonda
