The fair is in town???
Hi everyone. I have a really quick question. I am 3&1/2 weeks post op TAH. The Tennessee Valley Fair is in town this week and my kids are dying to go. Do you guys think it's safe for me to ride some of the rides? My DH will be with us but he has a very weak stomach and my DS loves to ride EVERYTHING. What do you guys think?

My opinion....... No.. I really dont think it is a good idea.. Most people are put off work for six weeks for a reason. Please take care of yourself and dont push healing - Hope all works out for you

Oh noooooooo... 3 1/2 weeks! I would say call your Doc but I can't imagine any surgeon releasing a patient to go on carnival rides at your stage in the game, sweetie. Mine wouldn't let me even ride a few hours in the car... that's ride not drive. Don't put yourself at any risk of injury or setback... can the kids ride them all by themselves? This is just my opinion, but if you haven't been seen and released by your surgeon, I would suggest you continue to rest and let your body heal. I know it's hard... I gave up my entire summer and I still am in pain. Best Wishes and leave the riding to the kids. Maria

I agree with the others. Rides are way too dangerous at this stage, it won't take a lot to tear something and I'm sure that's the last thing you want. I wasn't even allowed to drive for 2 weeks. Besides all that, just walking around at the fair is going to be very difficult.

Definitely stay away from the rides. Maybe a carousel but even sitting on the horse might be uncomfortable even though I adore carousels. I would also suggest staying away from crowds. There is always a chance that you might be jostled by people. Remember your recovery period is so important. You went through major surgery less than a month ago.
Take care.

The fair is in town???
There was a sister who went to Six Flags at 7 months post-op and she said she was sore from it. Gotta think about those bars going across your incision then the shaking and bumping of the rides (hurts even thinking about it). So I am with the othere sisters on that being a big no no!!! Theres always next summer and the ones after that, but only one time to heal correctly.
Gentle hugs!!

You all are right. That's kind of what I thought to I just hate to disappoint my kids again. It seems like for the past few months that is all I have been doing. My son had a terrible summer because I was so sick from all this stuff and then the TAH. They are not used to mom laying around doing nothing (mom's not used to it either). But like you said there is always next year. Thanks for all your input. You guys have been great. I really don't know where I'd be if it weren't for you all. God Bless!

Hi again CW,
If I were you, I would get some fun DVD's and watch them with the kids. Pop popcorn eat Twizzlers, whatever they like. I will tell you that as I was recovering my 22 year old daughter and I watched all six seasons of "Sex and the City". It was so much fun. She had been telling me about what a great show it was and I never bothered to watch it. My DH even started to watch it with me. I understand how you want to get out and move around but it definitely takes a few weeks to start feeling okay again. Do fun things with the kids that are safe for you during this very important recovery period.
Have fun.
