Hormone levels question

I am 5 months post-op and have not been on any HRT. I really haven't had any bothersome symptoms. A few hot flashes, but they are mostly gone now. But libido is an issue too.
I had an appointment with my GP today and asked her about having my hormone levels checked to see where things were. She said it would be a waste and that if I was having no problems with symptoms that I should just be happy and move on.
What do you girls think out there?? It's true that I am doing well, but I thought it would be good to know where I really stand. And....maybe get some help with the libido issue.
Let me know what you think.

Thanks!!!!!

Hormone levels question

I think that you may want to check into finding a dr who is familiar with testing all the hormones and working with bio-identical hormones that are compounded by a compounding pharmacy.

Here is the link: www.iacprx.org

They will help you find a dr who does this in your area.

I think if you are having a libido problem, they may test and see what your level of testosterone is. Compounding pharmacies can compound hormones specifically for you and in the correct amount for your needs.

Hormone levels question

If I understand your post correctly your doctor ignored any assistance when you commented on low libedo. ERT testing can help. If your estrogen and testosterone are in the basement you may want to consider replacement. If you testostone level is in the mid to high normal range replacement won't be an issue. Estrogen is a good starting place. Another frequently overlooked issue is vaginal dryness resulting from low estrogen. If this is an issue for you there are vaginal application that are not systemically absorbed to any significant level that do help. These preparations are commonly used by menopausal ladies (both surgical & natural).

Obviously some doctors are more comfortable with these issues than others. You may have to ask around and find out who your friends and aquaintances see and how other doctors handle these issues. You may need a change or get more information in order to assist your current doctor in helping you out.

Hormone levels question

I think it's aggravating to be put off like that. If you want your hormone levels tested you have a right to have them tested. I say this as one who had a dr. who would never test mine. I am going to a new dr. in Oct to have them tested. I found a doc who uses a compounding pharmacist who will test the levels. It really ticks me off when dr's say things like "why don't you just move on." Easy for them to say.

As you can tell I am venting here. ha Don't mean to sound snotty about it, but it does make me mad!

Hormone levels question

I hear you Miss Emma! Men get all kinds of pharmaceticals to help them but women are still not suposed to admit to having or wanting a libedo. I think that is a large part of being ignored on this score. When we have problems- the prevailing attitude is that- It's all in our head! Women seem to get offered antidepressants, tranquilers, etc.
