Help with endometrial - colon cancer

Hi Flutterby
I have almost the opposite experience.
I had hysterectomy July 04for stage one endometrial cancer. This August I had one third of my colon removed and was told I had stage III colon cancer. I have my first appointment with oncologist to discuss chemo tomorrow.
I would appreciate any input on your experience with chemo for colon cancer.
Hang in there, we can only do the best we can, but I believe we can get through this. I am expecting to be cured but am worried about what to expect.

Hi.
That's awful news!
I found a couple of websites on this- it sounds like there are many options for successful treatment of the colon cancer...
http://patient.cancerconsultants.com...nt.aspx?id=690
http://www.oncologychannel.com/colon...reatment.shtml

They seem like reputable websites.

In general chemotherapy for solid tumors is much better tolerated than chemotherapy for blood cancers like leukemias and such. Partly because of the agents used and partly because of the dosages (lower doses need with solid tumors). They have great anti-nausea meds out and so that has made things more tolerable as well. Also great is the longer acting white cell boosting shot that they have out now called neulasta. Before they had neupogen and you had to get several injections of it each month/cycle, but now you just get one and you're all done for that cycle. White cells die from the chemo so the shot helps kick new ones into gear.

I'm sure you will have lots of questions. I would just jot down in a notebook what they are and then ask away at your appointment and take notes. A good doctor/cancer team will educate you well on things- even the questions you never thought to ask.

Best wishes to you. Take care.

Ladies,
Thank you for the help and support.
I found the two web sites very helpful and I do know chemo is do able from being a member here for the last year.
I will be starting a six month treatment in about two weeks.
My prognosis is good, I do expect a full cure, but hope the next six months get over with soon and let me return to my normal life.
Janet
