Increase of infections?

Has anyone else had an increase in yeast/vaginal infections since surgery?
I use to only get yeast infections from antibiotics but now since my surgery I've had 6-7 in 6 months.
Could it just be a change in vaginal flora since my uterus is gone?

Increase of infections?

I am only approaching my 6 week recovery - but I have been told by a number of women to eat a lot of yogurt... that helps cut back/ prevent recurring vaginal yeast infections... that seems like a high number, though - I would def talk to your doctor.. take care!

Increase of infections?

Yes, absolutely I've had a real problem since my surgery. I had a TAH on June 3rd and July 27th was put on Flagyl for Bacterial Vaginosis. Two weeks later I ended up with a bad yeast infection and UTI and was put of Macrobid, then Diflucan for a yeast infection now Flagyl again for BV and maybe Diflucan again after that, I have to wait and see. Not to mention all of the Yogurt I've been eating. Lactobacillius capsules and vaginal suppositories I've been using which are very expensive. I've never had problems in the past and all of a sudden......awwwwgggg! It took me less time recovering from my surgery and frankly I can't take any more. It's wearing me down. Good luck and if you find some miracle cure please let the rest of us know.

Increase of infections?

I eat a lot of yogurt anyway. It seems to strange that I get infections so often now unlike before. I've got my yearly in October with my GYN, I'll ask him then.
I'm sorry to say this but I'm glad it's not just me having these problems.
Thanks!!!!!!

I've already had to get a pill for a yeast infection on Monday. I sure hope this clears up this " milky clear discharge. My gyno says it's from the antibiodics that were giving to me during the surgery.

Increase of infections?

Following my hysterectomy/bladder repairs in February I had four UTI's in the first twelve weeks post op . . . was treated with Levaquin, Cipro, Macrobid, and a final round of Cipro. I was still having a lot of vaginal discomfort/irritation and the URO dismissed it as "normal healing" stated I needed to be more patient because bladder repairs can take a long time. I went through a few months of continued discomfort and then dh started complaining of pain after intercourse and I realized I had some sort of infection. Called GYN and he said sounded classic for yeast. Called in a prescription for hubby and me (cream) and said no intercourse for 10 days. The symptoms continued for me (although cleared for him) and then I got thrush, so realized I was still battling the yeast. Now I am being treated on a 3 month regiman of Diflucan, so far it is not helping much. I think the yeast has been there so long it's basically shot my immune system. I'm also having other health problems and scheduled for more surgery in October so I don't think that's helping any. After reading your post, I was just wondering if you really think you are clearing yourself of the yeast? Sounds like if you've had that many in 6 months, possibly it's not totally resolving. Here's another question (sorry to get personal) but are you and dh/significant other (if this is pertinent to you) having intercourse without protection? I know it's absolutely ridiculous that after this surgery we would have to use protection BUT if you are dealing with this many yeast infections possibly you are just passing it back and forth. I was told I would have to use protection until all this has cleared from my system. Right now, our protection is no intercourse because it hurts too much for me! I really hope there is an end in sight someday! I feel like this saga will never get over. Hoping there will be better days for you, too! Have to admit though, it's nice to see someone else on here that's had surgery around the same time as me so often I feel like I'm the only one left!

Increase of infections?

I have had 3 yeast infections in my 6 months post-op. I went years without problems then had them almost every month before TAH/BSO in March. Thought I was through with that - but I'm sitting here now hoping that this is the last time. Called Dr. - and only suggestion was yogurt. It is very frustrating. Any link between HRT and Yeast? Would be happy to get any feedback.

Thanks for listening.

After I arrived home from the surgery, my throat starte to bother me. It only does this when I have antibiodics. I said to him, I think I have thrush.
He said, Nawww it's from the throat tube.

I thought, wouldn't I have noticed a discomfort when I woke up and go from there?? I'm no dr that's for sure.
I had no throat discomfort at all.

But then 6 days after my surgery I had sore tongue and throat, and my tongue looked fuzzy and each day was getting worse. ( I still have tongue pain and it's fuzzy too.

A week after that......
I got the milky white discharge. Ta da... a yeast infection. Which he called me in a pill and I think I could use another, but I'm not sure down there.

So0oo here I am trying to inhale Yogurt. My mouth gets thrush all the time when I get antibiodics.. from now on, I'm goint to "state" I get thrush with antibiodics on my records.

sorry I rambled..
I think our dr's put a large amount of antibiodics in us. This is problably why some of us get temps and yeast infections. We need to kill the yeast. I don't want to be bread.

Increase of infections?

JMW-
We've actually stopped having sex for a while to see if the problems resolve themselves. I thought having this surgery would be a great thing like my doctor said....all it did was create other problems & issues.
I feel like you do being the only one around. None of my friends have had the problems I did or do now. They empathize but they just don't really understand. All they see is that I don't bleed anymore. Yahoo!! But so many other things have changed or popped up since March, I wonder if this was the right thing to do. Saga, I feel the dame, it just never ends....

Increase of infections?

Samantha ~ So sorry about how you are feeling, but I can relate, I'm right there with you ! This has been tough, really tough . . . and I feel like most people don't really understand, just want me to get over it! Well, how do you when you feel lousy ALL THE TIME! I do know a lot of sisters have said it can take up to a year, so I'm just holding on to that time frame and trying not to lose hope . . . . . that's all we can do, right? Hang in there and feel free to send me a pm if you ever need to vent at all.

Caltc~ Has your doctor prescribed anything for the yeast infection? If you haven't taken something for it, I can't imagine that just the yogurt would be enough . . . I tried the yogurt, acidophulus milk, and acidophulus tabs without medications for quite some time. It didn't resolve the issue on it's own. If you aren't satisfied with your doctors answer (i.e. yogurt, which BTW I wouldn't be satisfied with if I was in your shoes) can you get another opinion or do you see any other doctors that could prescribe (i.e primary care)? Just a thought.

Peachprinceton ~ Interesting response from your doctor, mine also didn't think I had thrush, said only people who are really immune compromised or have HIV get it. He even said the discharge in my vaginal area didn't look like yeast, but cultured it just in case. Sure enough it came back yeast ( I knew I had it) and I knew the stuff in my mouth was thrush too! Anyway, the thrush by then had been in my mouth for a good month, as well as the vaginal yeast for several months. Now it is taking forever to heal. I wanted to mention that I had been on the oral diflucan for over a month and it did absolutely nothing to treat the thrush in my mouth. I had the same white film, dry mouth. It would get worse if I skipped the yogurt or was a little lax on my diet (ie. bread, sugars, etc). The thrush has been around long enough that it is causing pain in my throat and increased reflux symptoms also. Last week my gastro doctor prescribed me Nystatin to help with the thrush and I saw a significant improvement taking it. I actually missed the doses yesterday, got busy and forget to take (and then didn't take with me to work) and by the end of the day the white film was back again. Amazing how quick that yeast grows when it's stuck in our system. I would try to see if you could get your regular doctor prescribe you the Nystatin if you haven't already. You don't want these symptoms brewing too long. Plus it should help a lot!
