Hitting that 3 - 4 week recovery bump

Yipee - I'm five weeks today - and I have a suggestion for our lovely hostesses to consider. I've noticed that there have been quite a number of posts with a common theme, re the recovery process hitting a few hurdles somewhere between the 3-4 week mark - to the point where I wonder if it would be useful to include this in the checkpoint information? Something about that yukky patch that I've seen so many of us post about both for the ladies in waiting and for those in the early stages of their recovery journey might be reassuring for the poor things when they think they are losing the plot - like me! For some it seems to be the cryin' time, for others it's pain and other physical symptoms that disappointingly flare up again, after beginning to subside.

Me personally - at the end of week 3 - beginning of week 4, at any given time I would not have been surprised if my head to spun right around - a la the excorcist. I was completely venomous - that is when I was not sobbing into my now very soggy pillow (and feeling guilty about being so vile).

Good wishes and smooth recoveries to you all - this site, and the posts and support of its' members have helped me more than I can express here in words.

i agree

I must say, I definitely agree! I am 2 weeks and 2 days into my recovery, and I had a day or 2 of Yucks before, but I am not feeling as well as last 2 weeks. What should we call this period, 'cause there sure seems to be a trend if you read the post/threads re:weeks 3 and 4. These waves of change can truly be challenging. I'm willing to learn to surf them, but comforting to know I'm not the only one out there trying to remain upright on that surf board!

What you're describing doesn't seem to be too much out of the ordinary. At weeks 3 & 4 you should be starting to feel better. It's normal to occasionally have more discomfort, noticeably after an activity. But with a little rest you should continue to feel better.

The following paragraphs from Checkpoints (Weeks 3 & 4) seem to cover the period sufficiently.

  Quote:
If you are in week three or four, you may find that one day you feel great with a lot of energy and the next day you feel lousy and want to stay in bed.
  Quote:
During weeks 3-4 it might seem as though you are taking two steps forward and one step backward but this is still progress!
  Quote:
And, of course if you find you are experiencing more and more lousy days, call your doctor's office.
Please, please don't put a name to this as was suggested. To do so could actually do a disservice to our members. A member might neglect calling her doctor for a serious problem (hematoma, torn vaginal cuff, etc.) because she was told that it's *normal* to feel poorly at weeks 3 & 4.

Expect to gradually start feeling better at this stage of recovery. You may have a not-so-good day thrown in there, but if you are experiencing new pain or depression call your doctor.
