Low Iron still...

Tomorrow at 9 a.m. is my time. My family doctor just called and said my iron is still low. I have been on 3 iron a day since June. Can this have any affect on my surgery tomorrow.

Low Iron still...

I went through the exact same thing before my ablation. It's a double edged sword....You need the surgery to stop the bleeding which is causing the anemia. If you are anemic and have bleeding problems post-op, it is very dangerous. If my Iron count had been any lower I would have had to have a transfusion pre-op.

In my case, I was willing to do anything to proceed with the ablation, even have a blood transfusion. The thought of having a transfusion scares the living daylights out of me. But I would have done it.

I send you 's and my best wishes in finding a resolution.

Low Iron still...

I dont know if this helps but I would at least ask the doctor. I have been anemic off and on for years. The last time I showed anemic my doctor suggested I take vitamin C with the Iron. It helps the iron to be asbsorbed. It did the trick. Before that I would be anemic take the iron, eat iron rich food etc but it did not help.

Low Iron still...

Dairy Gal... JennInAZ is right, it`s a dbl edged sword..I was told that I may very well need transfusions, but I didn`t need them after all. My iron had always been low. It was low after the surgery too. They kept saying I was anemic while I was "in" and that my iron had to come up or they wouldn`t be able to remove the IV. I asked what I could do to fix that (cuz I wanted the IV out). They told me that my diet would fix that. Oh, brother ! There`s no food in the castle. They finally took it out after 3 days. I am no longer anemic and it feels good. I was being robbed for all these years. I have lots more energy.
