New job, bad timing

Hi Everyone,
I agreed to taking a position teaching Physical Education to Elementary school children which should start any minute. I am going in to teach for a lovely lady whose due date is next Wednesday. She is expecting to be out until Thanksgiving week. The problem is that I had a SAH on June 6th. I worked two days this week training and the day after each day worked I awakened with my incision just killing me. After getting my son off to high school I came home and slept for 2 hours the first day and I slept for 3 hours today. It is a 5 day a week job with 7 classes a day teaching kindergarten through 5th grade. There really aren't any breaks so essentially I will standing on my feet from 9 A.M. until 3 P.M. every day. I think that maybe it was too soon to accept such a rigorous and physical job. I am actually she doesn't go this week-end or next week. Yet, she is already 2 centimeter dilated. I hope I can survive since I did make a committment and I truly don't want to disappoint this wonderful woman who is counting on me.
Thanks for listening.

Amyr

Are you sure you're up to that? That's an incredible amount of standing. What about having some chairs scattered around so you can sit some? I live alone and have a dog so my best friend took my patio chairs and scattered them around my yard so that I had places to sit down outside when needed. It was a big help. Not sure if you can do that at a school but might be worth trying.

Oh wow. This is a toughie! But I think you need to lay down some conditions and tell her what you think you need in order to help you do the job. You'd be no use to her if you end up in bed after the first week!

Chairs, breaks, etc and anything else you can think of. I know you don't want to disappoint her but, if you feel any worse, your health must come first. It would be dreadful to undo your recovery.

Good luck!

Amyr,
I'm an elementary art teacher with a simmilar schedule. Not off my feet much and doing a lot of Cinderella jobs in 5 minute time slots between classes. I have to go back to work right after Thanksgiving or risk losing my school site of 17 years!

I plan to have my office chair ready to roll...maybe you can bring one into the gym ( Iactually had to buy my own!)
I also plan to have student moniter from each class that stay behind to help clean up and set up for the next incoming group .
Just a thought...you might even want to see if the older students can come in during the younger classes to help with small group activities, so you don't have to keep running circles aroung the gym.
I've had pretty good luck telling the students that I'm not feeling too well on heavy/fatique days and they really cooperate with the physical demands.
