gallbladder surgery after hyst?
Just wondering if any of you sweet ladies have had to have your gallbladder removed after you had your hyst? I go back for my 6 week checkup in 2 weeks and at that time my Dr. is referring me to another Dr because while he was looking around during surgery he found out I had gall stones. He says I have got to have it removed. I really don't want to have another surgery. The first one was scary enough and I am ready to get back to life.
If someone has had it done, how long did it take to recover and what are the restrictions with having your gallbladder removed?

gallbladder surgery after hyst?
Hi!
I had my gallbladder removed, but it wasnt after the hyst, it was before. Mine was done laproscopically, and the recovery time was about 6 weeks, although it was LOTS easier than the hyst, you still have to watch your activity level, even though the surgery is done laproscopically, you have still had major surgery, and had an organ removed. The down time was trying for me, but I learned to take it easy, and I think that helped with the down time for the hyst.
You will feel so much better after that pesky thing is removed...
Good luck to you.

gallbladder surgery after hyst?
I had my gallbladder out 7 weeks after my BSO. Didn't have much choice because I had a couple of major attacks. Personally, I would have held off if I could have until I was feeling almost completely healed from the first surgery.
Having the 2nd surgery so soon really threw me under the bus so to speak. All the extra anesthetic, pain pills, pain, nausea, etc. I am six months out and am just now starting to feel like myself again. And I think the Premarin was what got my gallbladder stirred up to such a state. I am off all HRT now and still treating GI problems (IBS).
Just IMHO if you aren't having any symptoms from your gallbladder I would put off having it out until you are completely back on your feet. Asymptomatic gallstones are not a medical emergency.

gallbladder surgery after hyst?
I had my gallbladder removed a year before my hysterectomy. In terms of recovery, it was nothing compared to recovering from a hysterectomy. I was only out of work 2 weeks and it would have been less except I had a drain stuck in me for a week. You do have to take it easy but not like a hysterectomy.

thanks
Thanks for the responses. You have made me a little more comfortable with this. I really hate surgery and wish I did not have to have it but from what I understand I don't want to have an attack from the stone. Sounds like they are very painful. I am just so tired of not being able to help out around here. I started back at walking this last week and I have now pulled something in the middle of my stomach and it really hurts when I move. I have been being such a good girl so that I could recover fast. I just don't want to turn around and have another surgery and be out of commision for another 6 weeks. I will go nuts....

gallbladder surgery after hyst?
What are the symptoms or problems with gallbladder?
I'm having problems with what I, and dr think, is indigestion. Pain at bottom of right shoulder blade going through to top of ribcage. Constant burbing! with no relief. I've had these symptoms since before STAH BSO but seems more often since op.
Any idea ladies?

gallbladder surgery after hyst?
From MedLine:
What are the symptoms?
Symptoms of gallstones are often called a gallstone "attack" because they occur suddenly. A typical attack can cause steady pain in the upper abdomen that increases rapidly and lasts from 30 minutes to several hours pain in the back between the shoulder blades pain under the right shoulder nausea or vomiting
Gallstone attacks often follow fatty meals, and they may occur during the night. Other gallstone symptoms include
abdominal bloating
recurring intolerance of fatty foods
colic
belching
gas
indigestion
People who also have the above and any of following symptoms should see a doctor right away:
chills
low-grade fever
yellowish color of the skin or whites of the eyes
clay-colored stools
Many people with gallstones have no symptoms. These patients are said to be asymptomatic, and these stones are called "silent stones." They do not interfere with gallbladder, liver, or pancreas function, and do not need treatment.
Hope this is helpful. My attacks started out mild but by the time I had my gallbladder out it felt like I was having a heart attack. Terrible chest pain, vomiting, pain in my back. Take Care. Vickey

gallbladder surgery after hyst?
I had my gallbladder out years ago. It was an out pt procedure which I only have three scars from about 1 inch long each. I had gallstones which were causing pain, nausea first thing each morning and belching all day long. It is a very easy surgery for most. However go by your recent surgery. When you had your hyst how fast were you up and feeling better? The gallbladder is nothing compared to the hyst so if you were up and moving then, then the gallbladder should be even better.

gallbladder surgery after hyst?
Thanks 'bankergirl' for listing symptoms - I think at one time or another I've had quite a few. Of course it may have nothing to do with the gallbladder but I think I'll keep a note of symptoms over the next few months and discuss with my dr. If I get another episode like the one I had 3-4 months ago (indigestion, pain in right shoulder blade through to top of ribcage, and tightness round chest - like I had a really tight band wrapped around me, and very painful to breath in. Couldn't sleep, stayed up a couple of hours til tightness gone. Dr said it was probably very bad indigestion and said didnt think it could be gallbladder - I hadnt even thought of that!!
Take care

gallbladder surgery after hyst?
Ann-
I just had my gallbladder removed last Wednesday. I had awful burning in the same area you are describing. I never had a problem with the belching, or some of the other problems I've seen listed, but I had the constant burning, sharp pains, and numerous other unattractive symptoms. It seems like I ended up in the ER several times over the past few years for what NOW we find out was my gallbladder acting up. While I'm angry that it wasn't diagnosed long ago, I'm so happy to finally KNOW what was wrong, and have it removed. I'm recovering at home, and am looking forward to a future with NO BURNING and being able to be MUCH more comfortable after I eat! Please let us know if you find out that your symptoms are gallbladder related. Many s and best wishes!!
Christy
