Got My Surgery Date Today

Well guys, I went to doctor's today and we scheduled surgery for November 8th. He said I can change that to whenever I want .. either later in November, or earlier ... or even October if I want to go sooner.

He is sooooo nice, very accomadating and polite. He said if I wanted to go TONIGHT, he could do that! He'd just call it emergency surgery. LOL ...

He's also going to call my insurance and order one month of home health care for me! That will be SO great! And as many hours as he can get! I have no help at all... and told him that, that's why he's doing that for me.

I'll be having an abdominal surgery, because my uterus is a 4 month pregnancy size ... and he'd rather be safe and go that way. He'll give me a 'hairline' cut ... said he'd be sure not to make it 'too' big. LOL ...

I'm leaving ovaries (or one, if one is bad) and cervix. He also said if I change my mind about that, let him know ... cause from bloodwork it shows I'm very close to menopause .. and ovaries COULD come out. I'm a bit mixed on that ... so I'll think about it.

He said he removed some polyps when he did the D&C, so I shouldn't bleed for at least 2 months .. hopefully not until the surgery .. which is good, so I can take my iron pills and build myself up.

I'll also have 5 weeks to get a bit stronger, going to walk everyday ... make some frozen meals to have ready, and eat healthier.

Soooo ... I'm going to join the ranks soon .. and become a princess!

Hugs,
Dee

Got My Surgery Date Today

Hello Dee,
It sounds like you have a very caring and wonderful doctor. That sure does help a lot! Good luck to you as you prepare. It is great that you have the luxury of taking as much time (or little time) as you need. Do yourself a favor and start a few lists now (questions to ask, things to take to the "castle", things you want to do at home to prepare for recovery). As your time gets closer you may want to change the lists, but at least you wont have the nagging feeling that you forgot something. Good luck to you on your road to feeling better.

Got My Surgery Date Today

Okay .. this is too weird. Just yesterday I had a conusltation with a plastic surgeon ... who is going to perform a full tummy tuck during a complete hysterectomy. This morning the PS's office and the gyn's office got together and set a surgery date for me ... and it's November 8th! You know what's weirder ... my screen name is DebbyDee (eerie music plays in background).

I am very nervous and very excited at the same time. I have been battling fibroids for many, many years. I've gone through various treatments, each of them providing only temporary relief. I had an ultrasound performed last week -- which revealed that my unterus is filled with at least 7 fibroids, the largest being about the size of a lemon (there are at least 2 more that are close to this size). My uterus is also distended at about a 4-month pregnancy size (eerie music continues to play in background). I will have a complete hysterctomy (bye-bye ovaries and cervix), since I have a history of ovarian cysts. I will be put on hormones immediately after surgery (which is a relief, since I'm more than a little nervous about "sudden menopause").

We must keep in touch ... and compare our "to-do" lists as we get ready for our big day.

Your Hyster-Sister,
DebbyDee

Got My Surgery Date Today

Hi,

My surgery is scheduled for 17-Oct-05. Looking forward to not being in pain and heavy periods, (Fibroids w/ their own zip codes!) but extremely nervous as well. Dee, It sounds like your Doc is very understanding. I'll be having a vaginal Hys. although sometimes I think it should be abdominal with the size of my uterus, but since I have a prolapsed uterus, maybe it's easier to get to. :-) Good luck with your surgery!!!

Hi Ladyfair,

I see you have a uterine prolapse too. If you don't mind my asking... what grade of prolapse are you and what kind of surgery are you having? I really don't have anyone here to talk with besides my doctor so any info or insight would be appreciated!
Thanks,
