Unhappy - Interstitial Cystitis??? Interstitial Cystitis???

I have been suffering with awful baldder pain and a frequent need to urinate--even though there is nothing in there to warrant such pain.

Over the weekend, I went to a Quick Care. I was certain that I had a urinary Tract infection. My urine was clean--no infection.

I was given Cipro and some meds that turned my urine day-glow orange. I have been on the Cipro since Saturday morning--and there is no improvement in my bladder pain. Therefore, I am going to discontinue the antibiotic. The last thing I want is a yeast infection from using antibiotics unnecessarily.

Does anyone here suffer from IC? What do you do to control the pain and misery? I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.~Moonchime

Interstitial Cystitis???

Check out ic-network.com and ichelp.org. These websites are bladder specific and offer lots of information to bladder pain sufferers.

You'll find after reading through these 2 websites that bladder pain relief is very individual--what works for one person may not work for another. Another thing to know is that other diseases/disorders need to be R/O before a diagnosis of IC is determined. IC is basically an inflamed/irritated/raw bladder that has no known cause or cure.

You might want to continue the antibiotics as this is sometimes a trial and error treatment that uro's try on IC/bladder pain patients. I encourage you though to either get a RX for Diflucan and/or get yourself some acidophillous (sp) to help counteract yeast infections. Also, continue taking the pills that turn the urine orange (or blue). If you run out you can pick some up at the local pharmacy (or Walmart) under the name AZO Standard (generic Pyridium). Anti-inflammatories might also help as will cutting back/eliminating acidic foods and caffeine from your diet (you'll find all of this information on those 2 websites--and ic-network.com is set up very similar to this one).

Hopefully you'll find some helpful information on those sites. Feel free to post any other questions you might have--someone i'm sure will be able to offer suggestions.

stay well

Interstitial Cystitis???

Drink lots of water. It may sound counterintuitive but water dilutes the urine and makes it less irritating. It helps you pee larger amounts less often. Also a warm bath (no irritating fragrances) that covers the entire abdomen can help. Good Luck!

Cool - Interstitial Cystitis??? Bladder pain

[I too, have been suffering with bladder pain, with no definitive cause. Very frustrating!!! I am sure that I have also been dealing with a recurent yeast infection, and that may have something to do with it. Interstitial Cystitis???

I too have been suffering from bladder problems also. I was prescribed phenazopyridine, which has not helped. I am scheduled to go visit the urologist on next Wednesday. I hope everything gets better with you and the other ladies have some good advise so I'm going to ck out the websites. I will be praying for your speedy recovery.

Interstitial Cystitis???

Hi there. Have you gone back to the Dr. to ask to be refered to an urologyst? If you can that would be a good thing. I too developed very bad post hyster bladder problems that landed me in emerg 8 weeks post op. The pain was so bad. I was lucky, as my gyn dr dx me after doing an internal exam. He then sent me to see an urologyst that treats IC. That was 6 months ago. I feel 100% better after taking Elimron and an antihistime. I never imagined that I could feel this good. So there is light at the end of the tunnel. Trust me, I would never have believed it. Do check out those web sites, they are very helpful. The diet helped me. I am lucky, as there are only a fwe things that I need to avoid. Some people have it much worse. Take care of yourself, you are not alone in this. Brenda
