Unhappy - Fleas!!! Fleas!!!

Help me please! We have fleas! Never in my life had to deal with this tragedy. And I say this in the most serious fashion. I have dealt with lice having 5 girls but never had to do the flea thing with the cats. Okay, we did the flea bath and locked up the house to bomb it. And yet either I messed up the bath and didn't get them all but we still had them 2 weeks later. So this week I called around to vets offices and they said they don't "dip" anymore but have this stuff called frontline and its guaranteed to work. I tried that cheap Hartz stuff at Wal~Mart with no luck so why not. Bathed my cat and let the shampoo sit on him for 10 minutes and killed everyone of those buggers for sure since I was stuck in my van with him for 4 hours I was picking through his long white/champagne fur and got them out by hand. Bombed the house and didn't go back in for 4 hours this time and yet that same night in my kitchen I was on the computer and met up with a flea on my forearm. I thought it must be in my head since I was picking them out all day I must be seeing things. But now 2 days later in my living room I still have them jumping and biting at me and the kids! The cat seems to be still clear (lucky for him he has been camping out upstairs in the bedrooms vs downstairs with all the carpeted rooms). But now what? I will administer the frontline to the cat tomorrow morning but what about the house? I was thinking maybe Orkin because I already dished out nearly $50 in flea bombs, collars, meds. I can't deal with it much longer!!!

HELP!!!

Fleas!!!

Do what the vet tells you. We have a constant issue with fleas here in Florida and also tried all the things you have just to have the pests back in a few. Also twenty mule team borax sprinkled on the carper help as they eat it and then dehydrate and its non toxic to the kitties We are coming up there on Thursday and I am so lookinmg forward to a bit of fall and cooler temps

Fleas!!!

I no longer have pets as my dog & cat both died a few years ago. Frontline always worked great (nothing else did). I live in Texas which is a big flea area, but using Frontline was all I ever needed (never needed to treat the house or yard, just the animals). I used it on both of them once per month year round and they were completely flea-free.

They were both indoor pets. But if you have a bad flea infestation, you may need more treatment for the house and even the yard (if your cats go outside) to get it under control. I agree that Borax works well in the carpet (springle liberally). After you get it all under control, the Frontline should be enough. Good luck!

fleas

I had fleas really, really bad. They only jumped and would bite me, figures. Anyway the Borax (twenty mule team ) is the only thing that worked for me. I used it so much it looked like it snowed in my house, ha. It is cheaper than anything else (all the bombs, etc.) Sorry to say I even had to shave my cat. I wouldnt recommend doing it yourself, like I did. Ouch.... Use the Borax several times. I left it on for a few days and then vaccum. Do it again and again until the boogers are gone. It is also safe for your pets and kiddies to use.

Fleas!!!

My 3 dogs used Frontline, I use granuals in the yard that kill all bugs and spray liquid sevin dust in the yard. As for the house, it needs to be treated every 2 wekks as the bomb poison does not kill the eggs.

Fleas!!!

I use frontline for my dog and cat. A while back (before I had frontline) when I had a big big flea problem, I bombed the house and put frontline of the animals. I then bombed again a few months later just in case the eggs had hatched. I haven't had a problem since then. I still use frontline each month though.

Fleas are the hardest to get rid of.

Fleas!!!

bunny nose,
I would also recommend the Frontline. It may cost just a little more up front, but, by the time you buy all the other stuff at the stores, you'll end up spending just as much (like I think you found out). My kitty had fleas one time. Also, some animals cannot tolerate the other things you buy at the stores and will really irritate their skin. You might want to talk to your vet and give the Frontline a try..good luck with all of this. Your vet may have some more advise as to rid the rest of the home, I've never had any more problems since I treat once a month....good luck to you and your fur baby!!!! Hugs

Fleas!!!

I had a terrible problem this summer. Must have been a bumper crop! I bombed my house every two week for 6 weeks, bathed my dog every week, and I would still see them. Then I went to my local home improvement store and got stuff to put on my yard. You use a broadcast spreader and it cost about $10 to do my whole yard. Bingo! No more fleas. If you treat your house and then send your animal outside to use the potty... they bring them right back in. I have never used the borax stuff, I don't think I could live with it on my carpet for several days. Good luck

Fleas!!!

Thanks to everyone that replied! I will try out the borax stuff for sure today. I believe since my cat has been clean and clear for the past few days it must be in the carpet since they are jumping and biting me and the kids. I look like I bought myself a red beaded anklet bracelet! They love me the best I noticed. Thanks and wish me luck!!
