Stopping HRT 2!/2 years after TAH/BSO

Hi Ladies - It's been a while since I've posted anything but I need some opinions. I knew the ladies here could help. I'ts been a little over two and a half years since my tah/bso and I have been on HRT since then. I am on estratest hs. I don't feel like it is really helping me any. I don't have any sexual feelings at all. I had been on a higher dosage but it didn't help either. I have terrible breakout on my arms. My g p thinks that it is ingrown hairs but he won't say if he thinks it is from the hormones or not. I also have noticed that the peach fuzz on my cheeks has gotten worse. (I think I can feel it blowing in the breeze) I have started weening myself off the hormones by taking one just every other day. I was just wondering if anyone else had tried this and what was their experience was. Thanks for the help.

When I got off I went cold turkey, but I think it would be easier if you wean off gradually and see how you do. I would see how you do on taking it every other day for a couple of weeks or more to be sure you are good at that dose and then proceed to cut back a little. I would give it a couple of weeks or so each time to be sure it has adjusted to lower level.

I hope this works for you. Hopefully you will have minimum or no symptoms. It could take months on up to year to do this where you won't have trouble.

Best of luck to you

Weaning

Hi,
I know exactly how you feel about being on HRT for a while. Two years ago I went cold turkey. Lost my mind. Kept bursting into flames every 15 minutes. No sleep, and droopy breasts. I went to my gyn and she asked me why am I taking myself through this and I replied "Dr. I don't want anything foreign hormones into my body." She replied "It's January and you have a fur coat on with a tank top underneath. Look at yourself in mirror." So to make a long story short I started to take Premarin 1.25mg for the last 20 months. For the last 3 months, I've weaned myself (a pill every other day) and for the past 3 weeks I've been on vivelle dot .5mg. I'm a little flush (about 4 times a day) but I'm living knowing that one day real soon I going to cut this patch in half for about a month. After that, bye bye HRT. (Please see my post in hormone jungle).
Hope You Can Keep The Fire Out
Theresa
