Reaction?

Hi everyone. I have been on the Climera 0.025 patch for about 5 weeks now. I had it on my belly the first week then switched to my back week two which worked much better. Last weeks patch fell off at some point without me realizing it until I was having major hot flashes again. Then this week I started itching really bad after a couple of days. I rotate spots each week but it got really painfully itchy and almost looked like a welt. Today it fell off (not due to change it until Sunday). So I moved my new one back to my belly again. Any ideas what might be going on? Could I have developed a reaction to the adhesive or could this just be a bad batch?

Thanks,
Tracie

First of all, you are right, it does work better on your backside as the absortion rate is better back there than on your stomache. It could be that your backside is more sensitive and it is allergice to the adhesive. I had that problem with the Climara patch (red, itchy, raised skin). I had to switch to the Vivelle Dot patch and it has worked great with no allergic reaction at all and it controls all my symptoms just as well as the Climara did...I also find that the Vivelle sticks much better than the Climara did...plus it is changed twice a week versus the once a week with the Climara.

I am also on the vivelle dot. Can you tell me where you prefer to wear it? The insert says only put on your abdomen. My doctor said I can put it anywhere I wish including my back, my hip etc. It is working so well on my abdomen I'm afraid to switch to a different spot but I am have some problems with it wrinkling. Thanks, Alleykat

If the Vivelle is working best on your abdomen, then I would just keep it there. No need to change a good thing. When I was on the .0375mg I was wearing mine on my backside, but after awhile I had to move up to the .050mg, but felt it was too much, so I switched it to my stomach since there is 20% less absorption there and it has worked great. I've never heard of anyone wearing them on their back, just their behind area or stomach.

Jackie, Thanks for the info. My dr. called in refill for me yesterday and when I spoke to the pharmisist he said the generic they carry has been around for a long time and he thought I should try it to see if that adhesive bothers me too. If it doesn't then I'm set, if it does I"ll call my dr. back and see if I can try a different brand. So far having the patch back on my tummy is not causing the welts, but I am also noticing my symptoms again. Stupid hot flashes. So I want to be able to wear my patch on my backside again where it worked much better! Anyway, thanks for the reply!
