can someone please help me with pathology results

hi guys it me again, i am almost 2 weeks post-op and i actually am starting to feel good, except for the pressure with bm and urination. i have some questions and was hoping that some of you could help me out. i got the copies of my pathology report yesterday in the mail, and i am alittle confused, it says
1. chronic cystic endocervicitis with squamous metaplasia (i never had an abnormal pap)
2. secretory endometrium ; adenomyosis
3. left ovary with benign cystic brenner tumor
4. left and right fallopian tube adhered to ovaries
5. vermiform appendix

sorry so many questions, but i get more information that i understand here then at ask jeeves lol thanks for all of your help. would this diagnosis have caused all my pain, because my pre-op diagnosis was chronic pelvic pain

Dear Mary,

I asked for my pathology report and got it at my 6 week apointment. My doc actually went over it with me so it would make more sense. What you need to find out is whether everything that is mentioned in the report was completely removed. It sounds like it was but you probably want to make sure with your doctor. If the doctor is not available, you might be able to have an experienced nurse at the office help you out too. From what you listed, your report is a lot like mine and the word benign means no cancerous cells were found in that location. I had the same situation with my cervix but it was noted as mild inflamation. Do you know if your cervix was removed? I asked the doctor before my surgery about this and she said that the cervix is a place that can grow fibroids and I said then please take that away! (my pathology report noted and extremely mis-shapen uterus from multiple large fibroids) That also means that you can't get cervical cancer later in life if the cervix is gone. My doctor still wants all patients to get an annual pap smear, even if the cervix was removed during the hyst - it is a good way to stay healthy because that test can detect many kinds of abnormalities that might occur in some women that can then be followed up on.

I thought I saw some other websites listed here as resources for technical info but I can't remember how I got there. You could send this question to one of this web site's hostesses and she could tell you what the web links are.

Good luck - it sounds like they removed the things that were causing your problems so you should be feeling a lot better soon!

Hi!

Isn't it great when you get to read the pathology report only to determine that it isn't written in anything even approaching regular English???

I had trouble understanding mine, too -- not so much the pathology report (which was about three lines long) but the surgical "play-by-play". I had to finally call the doctor and get a translation!!

That's what I would recommend for you, too. Either call the doc or a nurse with his service and they should be able to help you out with explanations for everything. This also gives you an opportunity to get even more information!

to you and I hope you get answers soon.
