incison redness

Greetings! I love this web site...in fact, my anesteseologist (sp?) recommended it.

So here's my concern...On my 3rd week since TAH. I have a horizontal incision with internal dissolving stitches -- surgitape removed by dr at 2 weekfollow up.
Yesterday, I noticed a large red area at one end of the incision that is hot to touch. I do not have any oozing and everything looks healed over. I'm concerned that it is an early symptom of infection. Should I be concerned?

Also still have quite a bit of soreness - lower abs, lower back, and severe cramping ramdomly through the day but that's usually relieved with bm.

Dr & friends told me it would be a slow recovery...they were'nt kidding!

incison redness

Hi,

I am 6wks post-op today and I had the same thing last Friday, noticed some redness around the incision, no weeping etc. I decide to go to the doc and I did in fact have an internal infection, I am on antibiotics now and the redness is gone. Please go to your doc it is more than likely an infection.

Good luck, Nelly

This sounds like an infection, probably mild but you need to be seen and put on antibiotics. The last thing you want is for this to break open. Don't delay. It may just be a reaction to the internal stitches disolving but it should be looked at by your doctor

The minute I read your responses, I phoned my dr and he saw me this morning. He was so happy I came in! It is definately an infection and he prescribed an antibotic.

I probably would have waited until the symptom got worse if were not for this web site! What a wonderful, supportive and informative resource!

Thanks all!
