Adhesive allergic reaction

Help...my adhesive allergy is in fulll bloom where the steri-strips were until yesterday. My doc removed the tape and cleaned me up with hydrogen peroxide, then applied Benadryl cream. The cream doesn't seem to provide much relief. The blisters and oozing are really painful. I have to expose my scar to air only as clothing and even my sheets are bothersome.

I did a search here and it sounds like I should try Neosporin...

Anyone have any other solutions?
How long did this last?

Adhesive allergic reaction

I had large blisters from silk tape following one of my c-sections. The nurses had me apply A&D ointment which helped soothed the burning sensation.

Adhesive allergic reaction

I ended up with only one blister but it never poped and ended up turning red like a blood blister from the nurses taking the bandage off at the hospital. I didn't do anything with it since it wasnt bothering me but I would thinke either one of those ointments would be good.

Adhesive allergic reaction

I had what I called a tape burn. It was really more like my skin peeled off. My doctor gave me a few little sample tubes of bacitracin ointment. It is like vasiline and did help with the burning. And cleared it right up. But check with your doctor to be sure.

Adhesive allergic reaction

I also had blistering and severe itching under several of my steri-strips. These blisters did not open up but instead formed a scab-which has since fallen off.

Called my Dr.'s office when they were itching so bad and he recommended 5% Cortisone cream which worked wonderfully.

In addition, it softned up the adhesive and the rest of the strips just bascially fell off.

In the future, I will list Steri-strips as an allergy.

Adhesive allergic reaction

Oh you poor things, I feel for you, I really do. I discovered I was allergic to Steri-Strips several years ago when I had a mole removed from my abdomen. I had the same problem, blisters and severe itching.

I can't remember how long it took to go away, it was so long ago. I think I used cortisone cream and kept the area exposed to the air as much as possible. I would call your doctor and ask him/her what to do/what to use. It's possible they might want you to take an oral antihistimine like Benadryl in addition to using a cream -- don't take any without checking with your doctor first, though!

I told my doctor I was allergic to Steri-Strips, so she sewed me up rather than use the staples & Steri-Strips. I am so thankful that I knew that ahead of time.

I remember how miserable those blisters felt, and will keep you in my prayers for speedy healing!!!

Take care.
