Anyone have any input for my situation?
Hello ladies! My name is Dawn and here is my story.
Oct 1992 - started my periods and they were heavy and prolonged... anemia set in from losing so much blood
Feb 1994 - was put on bc in attempts to control my cycle ... still anemic
March 1995 - had colposcopy, cervical biopsy, and cryosurgery... still anemic
1996 - doctor changed my bc pill cause the first quit working... still anemic
1999 - bc quit working again so I took myself off the pill ... was bleeding heavily 3 weeks at a time with 2 weeks in between... still anemic
May 2000 - delivered my daughter via emergency c-section due to placenta prematurely abrupting ... was put back on the pill... still anemic
Jan 2001 - pill didn't work and continued the 3 week on/2 week off cycle... still anemic
June 2002 - delivered my son via repeat c-section (my choice)... anemia caused a delay in surgery (count was around 8 and normal count for people should be 12)...had tubal ligation performed (my choice)... was put on low dose bc pill to attempt to control cycles ... had major pain in right ovary area
2003 - pills made me spot the entire time I was on them so I took myself off them again and continued the 3 week on/2 week off cycle... pain is still bad in right ovary area... still anemic
Dec 2004 - finally had enough of the pain and bleeding and ob did exploratory surgery resulting in... a d and c, laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, right salpingectomy, and repaired a hernia ... said d and c was clean, right ovary was stuck down and left ovary was stuck up (due to scar tissue from previous c-sections) and my right fallopian was shredded from my ovaries stretching it... once again was put on a low dose bc pill ... still anemic
June 2005 - low dose pill still causing spotting the entire time so once again I took myself off of it... still anemic
Sept 2005 - injured back at work, doc suggested physical therapy... doc was worried about my anemia and ordered tests
Oct 14, 2005 - passed out at first physical therapy session, blood pressure dropped from 110/60 to 86/58, blood count was 8.2... doc started me on prenatals (in hopes to bring up my iron) and reg dose bc pill... she states that I'm slowly bleeding to death and that my body can't keep up with my cycle
Oct 17, 2005 - recheck w/doc and bp is still 88/56... refers me to ob and says if bleeding gets any heavier than get in to see ob immediately... says if I lose too much more blood then I could end up in the hospital w/transfusions
Oct 20, 2005 - woke up in bloody sheets... was soaking through 1 pad/hour ... called ob and got appt w/doc on call... ordered 3 bc pills a day and to see my reg ob on tuesday (Oct 25 2005)... states that since the d and c didn't help in Dec that doc more than likely won't go that route again... states that the EA can be done but due to my age (I'm only 25!!!) that it will be something that I'll have to have done more than once... says that if I want a hysterectomy (which at this time is the only guaranteed fix) that the doc will more than likely send me to scheduling to have it set up... I spent most the night reading up on both the EA and the hysterectomy trying to get some info... I'm under the impression the doc is leaving the choice up to me... WHAT SHOULD I DO??? LOL
I am only 25, 5'3, and 115 lbs. I am so pale from the anemia I'd pass for an albino. I do work full time. I am tired of feeling like a guinea pig playing these guess and check games. I just wanna quit bleeding!!! Any advice, input, ect that anyone can offer me would greatly be appreciated.

I can truely relate to you !!! Before my hyster I was on so many BC pills and had tried so many and not one helped. I bled all the time, only a day off here and there (I wished I could have had a week off).
As to have a hyster or a EA, that has to be your choice. You have alot of things to weigh about your options. Are you sure you would want to have a EA, knowing most likely you will have to go threw it again? I personally would have a hard time having a surgery knowing it was a quick fix and would have to be repeated, especially with children waiting on you to recover (they can be impatient, can't they ).
Will you be able to keep your other ovary if you have a hyster, if not, are you sure your ready for menopause at 25?
I had my hyster at 29, and I do feel much better after. Recovery is not a joke on this surgery, be prepared to be down for awhile. You'll need help with your little ones for a good couple weeks. It is painful and it can mentally beat you up at times, but in my opinion, very much worth it.
Check out the boards on here, read as much as you can. Hystersisters lets you see what other women are going threw in pre-op, post-op, sexual disfunction, and the road less traveled. Some women have problems after their hysters, but for the most part alot of us get back our lives and feel pretty good.
Good luck with your decision and keep me posted. You can pm or e-mail anytime you like.

Hi Dawn,
I know having a hyst at your age is sad but maybe a must.
I had 5 months of bleeding and I know how it feels to be weak and tired.
I you live near a good hippy health food store please go there. They will tell you the mainstream vitamins are not always absorbed correctly by the body. Whether or not that is true please buy Black Strap Mollassas. Its gross but very high in iron. Taking vitamin C with the iron helps you absord more. Also I used a vitamin drink that was made of spinach and other foods that made me feel great. check out the refrigerated liquid vitamins.
According to the gals that work at my heath food store all the store bough vitamins do is make you have expensive urine.
Good luck!

Hi Dawn,
I know that before I made my decision that I made appointments with 2 other Dr's for their opinions. When they all agreed, I knew I was making the right decision.

Kay
