cervical dysplasia...

Hi, I'm a 23 year old female (duh) in the army. Right now I'm stationed in Texas (my husband is still in florida) and we will be moving to Korea in december.
I have not (and hopefully will not have to have a hysterectomy) but I found this site and hope that I can get some answers from here. I had my 6 month gyn apt yesterday (because my last one was abnormal and I had to have a biopsy and it said I had mild dysplasia) well apparently she said that this one "looked" like it was moderate to severe dysplasia, so they did another biopsy and I'll get the results in about a week. (I have another apt next tuesday)
the doctor said stuff about cancer, and not being able to have kids, and really scared me.

any help/information/support would be wonderful...

Dear VanillaBean,
I had severe dysplasia at the age of 22. I ended up having to have cryo surgery ( freezing of the abnormal cells) done twice. Try not to worry. You have lots of options( cryo, laser, leep, cone), depending on your actual diagnosis. They always have to warn you that theses treatments may cause cervical incompetence. I had 2 babys after my treatments with no cervical incompetence. Good luck to you!

Welcome to Cancer Concerns!

I had my first abnormal PAP at the age of 23. The cone biopsy showed it was carcinoma-in-situ, but it was totally removed with the cone. I had 10 years of normal PAP's after that. I then had a couple of cryotherapy treatments. I had my hysterectomy at the age of 37 after having my children. So don't panic quite yet. Statistics show that 90% of women are considered to be cured from dysplasia with a cone biopsy. Those are pretty good odds. You have reason to be optimistic. However, if your doctor should end up recommending a hysterectomy, make sure you insist upon a second opinion. There are many treatment options available and hopefully you would be a good candidate for one of them.

Good luck! Let us know what you find out.
