Memory Problems
Hello! You all have helped me so much during post-op. I am glad I stumbled on this website during a search on yahoo for a problem. No more searching - I come straight to the source! Thank you.
I seem to be forgetful and have to really think sometimes to remember the simplest things. I was wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this. I guess it is just the effects of the anesthesia. Maybe I am just crazy. I have been doing crossword puzzles, etc. to stimulate my brain. Any suggestions? It is not medication or anything like that because I went cold turkey 3 days after I got home from surgery.

Memory Problems
I did have that problem shortly after surgery too. A couple of visitors came in and asked me my heritage and couldn't remember! Kinda funny, had to ask my DH! They were looking at me in a puzzled sort of way. I was embarrassed and blamed it on the pain meds!
I hoped this was normal, but I'm fine now!
I've read some posts about "brain fog". Hopefully some other sisters can give you more input on this.

Crazychic,
You are not alone. A lot of us are experiencing the same symptoms. Some say it is due to the anesthesia, while others blame menopause. If you look there is a thread titled "brain fog" which includes lots of posts on this condition.

Memory Problems
I'm having problems with my memory and I haven't had surgery yet. I was reading at it might be because I'm estrogent deficient.

Memory Problems
I asked my doctor about being " befuddled " and she said it was alright I didn't have "brain rot" because if I did so did she ! I said I was glad about that because I definately had "body rot" On a more serious note she said that it was connected to the amount of medication I'm on
(22 daily before pain relief)Lets all hope it's a temporary phenomenon
God bless
Jean

Memory Problems
I found this wonderful website about a month before my surgery and it has been a god send. I am 8 weeks Postop from total radical abdominal hysterectomy. I have been healing great. My problems are, I feel real scatter brained. I am back to work and my boss pointed it out ( very nicely, half joking) But when I asked my husband, he confirmed it. I joked it off and said it's lack of estrogen, I'm thinking like a man now. But, seriously, will HRT help with this?

For me, it the brain fog was more related to the anesthesia than hormones. It took a while to go away. I'm really feeling back to normal in terms of being able to remember things and concentrate since I've gotten back to work.

Memory Problems
I am about 6 1/2 weeks out, and experiencing the same thing. When I talk to customers on the phone, it's like I cant find the correct words and the train of thought goes right out the window!
On a funny note, last Saturday I put on what I thought were my black garden clogs to go to the store. They are so comfy, I had also purchased a purple pair. When I got to the store, I noticed I had a black clog on the left foot and a purple clog on the right foot! I decided to laugh when these things happen.

I am glad some one else experienced that "fog". the first 2 to 3 weeks after returned to work (I went back after 8 wks). I had to write things down. I would forget what I was doing. Or stop midway in doing a task and go on to something else, forgetting what I was just doing. I feel a lot better now.
