Pre-op yesterday

Well, had my pre=op appointments yesterday. My doc is so laid back about this. Its good, because I think its the one thing that is keeping me calm...when I've had to see him over the last 6 months I've always felt better and more resolved going out of his office. It is stressful and emotional, but he understands that and is not pushy in anyway.

T-7 and counting

Pre-op yesterday

I'm happy that you had a good pre op and that it made you feel a bit more comfortable. Mine was the day before my surgery and I went in very calm

Best wishes.

Pre-op yesterday

Hi Katy

Oh my goodness is it T-7 days already? I'm Nov 8 also! I think I've got everything ready... the dreaded flu ripped through the house last week, hubby and I didn't get it, just the 2 kids but our youngest is special needs and was in hospital for several days. I was so worried about catching something in there but so far so good. I find out on Friday what time my surgery is and I'm praying it's going to be early.
I'm so glad you're comfortable with your Dr. that's so important. Let's keep in touch and help each other get through this.

My pre op is tomorrow with surgery the day after you! What specifics did you get? (if you are willing to share)

The last week will hopefully go fast!! My pre op is tomorrow and DH is coming along.

Pre-op yesterday

The nurses were the most helpful. The biggest thing they stressed was lift nothing more than 15 pounds for 6 weeks, and only walk and rest for 6 weeks. Supposedly this helps with the healing/prevention of scar tissue. I was told to practice coughing with a pillow or holding my belly with my hands, and to practice rolling out of bed. I asked about sitting at the computer and sewing machine and was told that was fine.

My doc does not require a bowel prep, and said the chances of damage to the bowel, despite my bowel to uterus adhesions, is small. And if it should happen, the general surgeons are right across the hall doing colonoscopies, so he can easily call one in to assist.

They did ask if I minded being put on the maternity floor if Med-Surg was full. The only patients they can move to maternity are hysterectomy patients. But I could have said no if I felt strongly about not being on maternity. It is not my first choice, but at this point, I think I would be okay. Having kids has not been a must for me at this point. There are children in my life, and I have a very full life beyond motherhood.

Otherwise it was just signing consent forms, the pre-op nurse interviewed me about my health...I'll be back, IT at work has to do a server shut down....had to have blood work done and pee in a cup.

Work is stressing me out right now, but my boss is being great about it. I'm trying to get everything lined up with other staff. What a pain! I'm 2nd most senior in my office, so have umpteen projects going on, many of which have reports scheduled to go out last week (which have not yet gone!). I really want them out before I am out...makes a good time to transition aspects of the job.
