need some advice asap

I just went to my doctor today and was given the option of a endometrial ablation or laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy. because of my history of hpv and me being at high risk for cervical cancer I am trying to weight myoptions. I have already had my tubes tied after the birth of my last son in 2003 after that my paps started coming back abnormal. in september of 2004 I finally had a test that determined my entire cervix was covered with abnormal cells in december i had the LEEP procedure done. I have had heavy bleeding continiously since then. My last option was being put on seasonale which i have been on for three months because of me being only 32 I am having a difficult time trying to decide what is going to work the best for me in the long run. I do not want to have to deal with the possibility of abnormal paps, endometriosis and the heavy bleeding anymore. my doctor told me that the ablation was only 50/50 because of my age. If anyone can give me some advice or if you have dealt with this please let me know. I have to call the doctor on Tuesday with my decision. thank you

I wish I knew what an ablation was. I had a vaginal hysterectomy and that part of the three procedures was the easiest. All I know is truly trust what your heart and your gut tell you. Write down the good and the bads and the "not so bad" If the bads out weight the goods, you may find your answer there. I will say a prayer for you and keep in touch.

hugs sent to you from Shonna

Wow....you sound a litle like me!
I am 32, had my tubes tied six years ago. Just recently though is when they found Severe Dyslasia but I have a Large Cone done and they got it all. But I am still having pelvic pain which is why I went to see them in the first place.
I personally am hoping to get a Hyster to get this all over with. The pain is ridiculous and I don't need my uterus anymore.
I am praying for you that you make the right decision for YOU.
Hang in there.

Been there, done that.

I was thirty three when I had my hysterectomy, and they took my ovaries, because I had endo on one, and according to my doctor who is an oncologist from Bethesda, it was better for me to take them both, I had Cin 11, with negative margins, but the treatments they tried didn't work, freezings, laser, it kept coming back, and at last report, a lot of my cervix was involved and at my age, after dealing with it for twenty years, I said enough. I chose to get it over with, the horrible periods, the pain, all of it. I am not going to lie, It was not easy it had its, moments, but I have to believe I made the right choice for me, It has not come back so far, it still could,(it is rare) but it hasn't so far and it will be five years on Feb.14th 06.It is a big decision, only one you can make. So I wish you luck, I will pray for you, C'C.

Dear sconaway:

Here is a link to a website with info and message boards about ablation: http://p076.ezboard.com/bendometrialablationboard

I hope you will take the time to get a second medical opinion. My doc #2 had much more cutting & pasting in mind for me than doc #3. Get smart about your symptoms and your options, and make the best choice for YOU.

I am sending huge cyberhugs

Hi Sconaway,

I too, had a tubal ligation. Because I had several issues at once, my dr was trying to less invasive treatments as my first resources. The ablation I had almost two years ago, was a cake walk compared to the hyst in terms of recouping (not encluding the vomiting I did all day, on the day of the surgery). Here, you are handled as an outpatient, so you go home to your own bed that night. She said I would be off about two weeks, but felt well enough to go back to work at a week and a half. Unfortunately, I was one of the unlucky ones that weren't significantly helped by the procedure. No periods for two months, then they started again, as did the pain. Not a great solution to my problems. My periods continuted to worsen again. The day before my hyst, my periods came back again, strong as ever, and only two and a half weeks since my last one. That seemed to be the case, with each period, it came sooner than the last one. For me, the hyst has been a very good choice. I had several issues going on at once, so things like the ablation weren't all that helpful

I have been told that this procedure helps countless women. And for them I am happy. Whether it is a good decision for you, only you and your dr can decide. What ever that will be, the sisters are with you 110%.

Hello!
I would get another opinion. I have just been to my fourth doctor one week ago for advice regarding failed ablation, but I do not regret my choice to the ablationd one in the first place. The surgery is outpatient, recovery time is relatively quick compared to hysterectomy (of course). But it is true, this doesn't work for everyone, but I saw it as an easier option for me and my family. I am 35 and am now looking into hysterectomy options, but like I said, I don't regret having the ablation done at all. I wish you the best of luck in your decision!

Sconoway

I also had several issues going on at once,( sorry to be so graphic ladies) chronic pelvic pain, adhesions, history of PID, endo one one ovary, Lap in 1990, for all of these issues, and more...had prolapsed cervix from birth experience,( vaginal walls fell). stubborn Hpv, So I felt for my "Quality of life," it was the best and only choice, for ME. But it is an INDIVIDUAL ISSUE FOR EVERY WOMAN ON HER OWN TO MAKE. Good ideas from the ladies , write down the pros and cons, talk to your doctor, or other ones if that is what you need, but whatever you choose, make sure you have all of the information it is your body, what you do with it is your choice. But remember, knowledge is power. I will Pray for you, and I hope everything works out for you.C'C.

I would recom. hyst just b/c everything I have read here and my best friend had ablation too and it didn't work for her either. But my best answer for you is to pray about it and the answer will come.
