Post Op Breast Pain

Hello, Ladies. I had a radical abdominal hysterectomy on Sept 29th. I am between 5 and 6 weeks post op. I woke this morning with some sharp pain in my right breast. Of course, I am worried as I had my surgery due to stage 1B1 cervical cancer. there was no metastatic cancer in my abdomen. All organs were healthy and well. Nothing was revealed in the parametrial tissue or lymph nodes that were removed and studied.

I do know that I felt PMS crankiness on friday and Sat and that on sat evening I pulled the laundry line all the way in and reached to unhook the clothes and fold them up piece by piece as my husband was not home and my daughter was out with a friend. I did not want the clothes to hang out once it got dark.

I did not have any pain on Sunday, but I woke with some this morning. i made my first pie yesterday afternoon, so i made and rolled pie crust. Maybe that contributed to it? i have not "worked" my arms in weeks. It comes and goes and is more obvious when I move the arm. It has lessened over the day.

I am thinking now that I pulled a muscle as it is almost feeling like it is UNDER the breast. Also, no lumps what so ever in the breasts. My breasts are very small, and i can actually feel the ribs underneath. When I really press firmly under the center and nipple, it is tender.

So, what do you think? Am I just being paranoid? How much time (days) should i wait before calling the doctor's office to get it checked out. i am due for my first mammogram whenever I scheduel it. I was thinking after thanksgiving and before my next appointment on Dec 1.

Oh, they did a chest xray before surgery so if there was something in my lung, wouldn't it have shown up then? I think I am being paranoid, but it is all so new to deal with.

Post Op Breast Pain

Suzy,
I do believe that a nodule would have shown up on the chest x-ray. Not having delt with cancer, I think you would be feeling more concerned than I would. I do wonder, however, if it is because of the extra work you did. I had my surg the 26th of last month, and I'm watching how I use my arms, and as I do more, expect to feel some soreness. Did you sleep on your right side and pull the laundry more with your right arm? I don't have much of a medical experience, but sometimes just knowing someone's listening helps.
And if you still are feeling concerned, why NOT call the dr.! This is all new for you and you have a right to be heard. Since you had cancer, I wonder if you'd feel a bit more confident if you saw an endocrinologist as well. I know it's not apples and oranges, but my mom had thyroid cancer and now diabeties and the endocrinologist was very helpful. I'm planning on making an apt. with one just for the fact of wanting to know what's going to be the best treatment hormonally since my remaining ovary was also removed. Hope some of what I said helped!

Post Op Breast Pain

Well, I awoke with no pain in my chest at all this morning. So, it was either overworking of muscles not having been used in weeks or hormones or a combination. Anyway, I feel much better, and I thank you for your reply and concern. i guess it will take a while to really feel not so scared and jumpy. :-)
