Incision opening

Hi Ladies,

Has anyone experienced an opening of the incision? I had my staples removed last week and that same evening I was getting off the couch and felt a POP. It hurt!! Anyway, I started bleeding and since it continued until the next morning. Immediately after it happened, I had called my Dr's. emergency # and they advised me to apply pressure and stay in bed to see if the bleeding would stop. Of course, it didn't and the next day I was in ER. The opening was approx. 1 1/2 inches, but deep, so they packed it. I've got visiting nurses coming to repack/redress, so that's okay.

Anyone have a similar experience? My biggest concern is that it will set me back from returning to work in 6 weeks (not really an option for me as my benefits aren't all that great), although I feel great and have since my surgery.

Thanks for listening!

HI! I am sorry you are having to go through this. Here is a link to another hyster sister post about what you are dealing with. Just read them all as some may apply to you and some may not! If this doesn't help, you may also do a search on incision opening, the search link is top (a little down) on the right hand.

Incision opening

Hi. Several of the sisters (including myself) have been through the same thing. My incision opened the day after I got home from the hospital. I ended up getting an infection. Anyway, I know it doesn't seem like it but things will get better. My incision did eventually (slowly but surely) close by itself. However, I did NOT return to work until 8 weeks after my surgery. Take care

Incision opening

Hi - I am 6 months post-hyst and experienced my incision being opened at 1 week post-op. My doc opened it in her office because I had a hematoma form behind it so it needed to be drained. Anyway, I was (actually my DH was) doing the packing everyday, etc. and then I was sent to a specialized wound doctor for care. Long story short, I returned to work at 6 weeks post-op even with my incision not completely closed and the threat of another surgery. However, happy ending, my incision did end up closing okay with no more surgery AND I was glad to get back to work so my mind would be on other stuff besides my incision. So, everything will be okay and hopefully you can return to work as planned...just take it very easy in the meantime !

Best wishes !!!

Thank you all for responding! I certainly don't feel alone with this amazing support system going on here. I appreciate your thoughts and comments, as it eases my every concern. The visiting nurses have been wonderful, and I'm healing fabulously. Lucky for me, I'm "young" and healthy, so I have nothing but time on my hands to care for myself and meditate/visualize the healing process. I truly believe doing this is truly helping me!

Ahhhhh...tea kettle is whistling... time for a cup.

Take care,

Carol

Yikes, Candypops! Sounds like you had a rough go of it for a bit, but you "sound" upbeat. Glad to "hear" that! Great too, that you're a year out and feeling fab. You're my inspiration!!

Take care and thanks for your sincerity.

My wound did the same as yours at 2 1/2 weeks post op when I thought I'd be over the danger time and I don't mean to depress you but I had the district nurse in every day for almost 3 months to dress the wound. it has finally closed but I've never got back to work yet but am hoping to do so on 28 November (4 months post op). I've had trouble with back pain and some pre-existing health problems so don't think it'll be that way for you.
I hope your wound heals quickly and you manage to get back to work on schedule. Take care
