Kicked Out of the Castle!

Hello Everyone!~ I had a LAVH and abdominal colestectomy and a Burch procedure on Monday, April 2. No problems- on pain pump for the first 12 hours after surgery. I was eating regular meals the Tuesday (Resident's screw-up) and was sitting up all day. I have a supra-pubic catheter installed, so Wed was the day to start walking to the bathroom to check the plumbing. Because of asthma and soreness, 2 nurses held me up to get to the bathroom! As I sat down to have dinner at 5PM, my dd who is wonderful, but was on his way to see me for the first time since surgery, called to say, "Sweetie, your insurance called- we have to get you out of there!" So, instead of dinner, I had to have my sister in law dress me, call my dh and go home. I was shocked to say the least, and had to have a cram couse on changing catheter bags, measuring output etc. at home. A nurse will be coming by every other day to check progress on the catheter. They say you get better faster at home, and I learned the hard way. OH, absolutely no problem with anesthesia, pain etc., and I kept the ovaries and had huge fibroids each 3.5 inches each, which was surely the cause of the excessive bleeding! Thanks for all the kind words!

Evicted

Krona.......So sorry to hear of your rushed exit from the castle.........it sounds as if the Ins. Co. was rushing the moat as you were struggling into your going-home clothes! Ack!

I'm glad you're home and feeling well enough to post; however, do remember those Pillow Police are everywhere (I have it on good authority that they are camouflaged as dust bunnies this Spring). Do remember to follow Dr's orders carefully and take it easy!

Kicked Out of the Castle!

Welcome Home!!!! Bless your heart. I'm amazed that you were kicked out so quickly. Maybe I shouldn't be though. Glad that you are doing ok with it. What ins. company do you have? Yikes!!!! I hope you do get better faster at home. Remember to rest. You get one time and one time only to recover from your hyst and my friend you can take your time at home!!! Your ins. company can't say a darn thing about that!!! Best wishes!

Kicked Out of the Castle!

Hi, I have seen this thing happen hundreds of times. I am a nurse, and the ins. co is so wrong in doing this to people. We need new legistation in all states. If we all email the Atty. General of our states we might help make a difference in our daughters futures and other women that follow us. I have seen so many re-admits due to post-op infections, from bladder to any other body part you can think of. I actually refused to write discharge planning for a patient, because she was bleeding to heavy ( my opinion). She was back in 5 hours , she had apeice of the placenta still inside, and she was bleeding to death. She was ok later, but look how much the ins. co spent for that!! And even I was sent home exactly 17.5 hours after surgery myself for a TAH, burkes, mass in rt. breast. and removal of a plate in my neck where it was supposedly fused from a previous surgery. I was in the hospital 7 days just for the orginal neck surgery, and only a little over 17 hours for all the things I listed, this time. I can go one better, the other day I went to a new family doc, and they refused to see me, because I have TOO!!!! MUCH!!! Ins. They argued that my medicare takes presidence over my own private ins. policy I have had for years, and to think I had to fight the social security disability for 6 years to get the Medicare only to have it work against me. I need my head examined. Sorry to carry on but it really tweeks my brain. I hope you are very careful and get rest when you can even if you don't think you need it, lay down at least a few hours a day. The third week is usually when we run out of steam from all the surgery.

Kicked Out of the Castle!

Dear Krona...well, I think that is scandalous - about the insurance. What I think is FABULOUS is your incredible postive attitude, lady. Wow...are you a motivational speaker or something?? I bet you don't let much get in the way of your sunshine.

Glad to hear you will be checked on regularly. Please don't try to be TOO independent. REST REST REST!
