What sorts of vitamins/supplements are good for healing?

I am just about nine days post-op and finally feeling like being online and doing a few things and was wondering what sort of vitamins and supplements are good to help with healing and recovery. I have used up most of what I had, so wanted some input so that on payday I can make my wish list

I want to start taking some calcium too- any recommendations?

Thanks and well wishes to each of you.

Hi Nyxluna, I am 42 years old and have the very same problems but my surgery is the 17th. I am glad your doing well. I am a shaklee fan so of course I recommend those. I understand calcium is absorbed better if it has magnesium with it. I also understand calcium is a metablism booster. Sounds good to me. There is a book called a vitamin bible that lists all vitamins and their benifits, which may be helpful. B-complex gives me energy and boosts the brain and of course a multi-vitimin covers alot of territory. good luck and I hope you continue to progress well with you recovery. bikini

For vitamins, I've taken GNC's Women's Ultra Mega Dietary Supplement for the past year. It seems to have all of the supplements commonly recommended for women. I can tell you that both my skin and nails improved quite a bit - this is the first time in my life that my nails have grown long.

But I also think that DIET is just as important. I read in another post that the Breast Health Online website has what they call a "healing diet". I did try to follow the diet to some extent - especially drinking lots of "lemon" water - and since I just got cleared by my doctor at four-weeks post-op, the diet may have helped! I've been eating a banana every day for the potassium, which is supposed to be a big help in recovery.

I take a multi and some extra vit E right now. If you have constipation problems, watch out for too much iron. Vit E aids in healing. And I agree with Pink, diet is much more important than a pill.

When I had my gallbladder out, the surgeon recommended a multi-vitamin with 600 mg of vitamin C and also that I take metamucil every day to avoid constipation. That worked well for me with my gallbladder, so I have done it again with my hysterectomy. Again, I have had good results.
