Acidophilus or yogurt anyone?

Hi All,
The big day is only 4 days away. Talking with a friend yesterday and she mentioned that perhaps I should start taking acidophilus tablets or eating a lot of yogurt to fend off the dreaded yeast infection post-op. Anyone ever tried this? Didi it work? I sure don't want any complications even if they are more annoying than serious!! I'm trying to stay (get) healthy this week. Thanks in advance for any insight.
Hugs to all!!

Acidophilus or yogurt anyone?

First of all....what dreaded yeast infection post op??? I didn't get one...haven't heard of too many women here reporting this.

Please don't take anything unusual before your surgery without consulting your doctor. As we have learned, some herbals interfere with anesthesia. While I don't think yogurt falls into this category, I wouldn't take acidophilus tablets unless your doctor OKs it first!

With only 4 days to go, you wouldn't want to have any delays!!!

Best of luck and I hope the days go fast for you!

Definitely talk to your doctor first. Acidophilus is not an herbal but your doctor may not want you to start something new right now. I haven't heard of post-op yeast infections.....but then I'm not a doctor either.
I took acidophilus right up till the day of surgery with my doctor's permission but I've been on it for a while too. I did have to stop the herbal supplements though. I'll be praying for you......now, off to the post-op board! Bye

Acidophilus or yogurt anyone?

HI. I SUFFERED HORRIBLE YEAST INFECTIONS FOR MONTHS AFTER MY MYOMECTOMY. THAT WAS SIX YEARS AGO. IT WAS A VERY COMPLEX SURGERY WITH LOTS OF PROBLEMS. I JUST HAD A TAH,SUPRACERVICAL. I FEEL GREAT AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY OF THE AFORE MENTIONED PROBLEMS... I THINK IF THE SURGERY IS STRAIGHT FORWARD YOU WILL NOT NEED AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF ANTIBIOTICS, THEREFORE MINIMIZING SUCH IMBALENCES. BEST WISHES TO YOU. JONNY 99

Acidophilus or yogurt anyone?

Thanks for the input. Dr. said she would be starting a prophylactic antibiotic just prior to surgery and then 2 more doses post op. This is standard practice for HER. Everytime I've taken an antibiotic for anything, I got a yeast infection. I was trying to head that off in this case. I like yogurt and normally eat it anyway, so I"ll continue that and forego the tablets. thanks again!

Acidophilus or yogurt anyone?

Ask your doctor before doing anything. But I think eating the yogurt would be fine. I would hold off on the achidopholus until he says it's ok. I did have a yeast infection after the surgery and Dr. prescribed Difulcan for me which is a wonder drug. I pill cleared up the yeast infection so it wasn't so bad.

Good luck to you.

What yeast infection....

I wouldn't start taking any pills so close to the surgery. I had my hyst mid Jan. and never had a yeast infection. If you like yogurt, fine...I would NOT go with the acidoph. pills now.
I was given IV antiobitic immediately prior to surgery (so I was told--who knows as I was out like a light) and that is all I was given.
Don't invite trouble by tryng to change your body's natural chemistry now. If your MD wants you to take an antibiotic then , that's a medical decision to make and most likely appropriate for you.
