Questions about ablation vs hysterctomy

I am looking for some advice on the Novasure ablation vs having a hysterctomy. I have already had an ablation several years ago (not the Novasure procedure) and it didn't work. My doctor is recommending the Novasure procedure because it is less evasive, but I also have a cyst on one of my ovaries and a retroverted uterus. For those of you who have had the Novasure, do you still have PMS symptoms? That is a lot of my problems. I would appreciate any advice.

Questions about ablation vs hysterctomy

kycatsfan,
I had the Novasure proceedure in July 2004. I had a period a month later. Not as long and heavy, but a period. I still get bad cramps, headache, backaches - the works. It progressively got heavier and now I'm scheduled for a tah on 11/30. I'm glad I tried - but it just didn't work for me. Good luck.

Questions about ablation vs hysterctomy

Hi kycatsfan,

I had the Novasure on the 18th Oct. My period was due the 3rd week post op. I didn't experience any bleeding at all but the 'watery' discharge I had seem to get a little darker. I had very slight period discomfort without the bleeding. It was all very confusing really. I did still experience some PMS.... well I was told I was grumpy the week before, but as I'd just had the op I was let off the hook!

Questions about ablation vs hysterctomy

Hello!
I had the NovaSure Ablation done in July. I have gotten periods, and I do still experience PMS Systems. I have since seen a new doctor regarding other options and was given three. Do nothing, have another Ablation or have a Hysterectomy. I am still in the do nothing category. I do not regret having the Ablation though. My periods are definitely lighter, but they still last a long time. But for me, it sure beats going through pad after pad a day.
Good luck to you!
shermeg (failed ablation 6/05, D&C & Novasure Ablation 7/05).

Questions about ablation vs hysterctomy

im not sure if this is the same,or similar to the same thing i had done..nov 13,2003 i had to have thermal choice balloon therapy due to SEVERE SEVERE bleeding caused by fibroid..for 2 years i have had no bleeding at all..not a drop..however,my aweful horrid pms is still here, the cramps, all of it...with the thermal choice, they boil the linning of your uterus out....as of a month ago,i startd having some bleeding again....had a ultra sound done 2 weeks ago due to 2 complex cysts, and was told that the linning of my uterus HAS GROWN BACK..now i honestly did not know this was possible, but i guess anything is..if i woud ave been givin a choice then,i would have opted for a full complete hysterectomy

Questions about ablation vs hysterctomy

Hi (((Kycatsfan)))

Ever since my neighbor had her Novasure ablation 5years ago she's joked that she has "mystery" PMS. She hasn't bled since, so she's never quite certain if her moods are really PMS or not. She doesn't have any bloating to make her uncomfy so she says it's hard to tell.

My (rollerball) ablation failed because of fibroids and adenomyosis, but I don't regret it for a single minute. It works for LOTS of women and it only took an afternoon of my time to see if I might be one of them.

Hormonal issues can be very unpredicable with a hyst. Removing the ovaries causes sudden menopause which can be quite dramatic, and retained ovaries can continue to cycle with PMS/mood swings like before a hyst, or the ovaries can be effected by the surgery: Article: Ovaries shut down?

I don't think there's an easy answer - unfortunately.
Please let us know what you decide is right for *you*.

Good luck with your decisions~
Best wishes & gentle s,
Beth

Questions about ablation vs hysterctomy

I just had an LSH and my dr. and I discussed ablation. He said the ablation works well for women with heavy bleeding only, but If you have pain with your period he didn't suggest it. Don't know how other drs. feel but I have alot of trust in my dr.

Questions about ablation vs hysterctomy

I had novasure ablation and after 17 months I had to have LAVH. It seems that it doesnt do a good job near your tubes and i was having small periods since there was so much scar tissue from the ablation it could not escape so i was having contractions. I also lost one ovary.
