1 week post op feeling good!!

Sorry, but I am gonna scold you!!! You are risking doing some major damage to yourself. If you want to continue to feel good, you need to slow down and heal!! I am amazed that you want to take such good care of your incision by not getting it wet, but aren't willing to take care of your insides. There are a couple hundred stitches holding you together and if you keep it up, your going to pop some of them. Please stay away from vacumming, it really is a strain on your ab muscles.

I only scold because I care!!!

1 week post op feeling good!!

Hi Soprecious,

Yes I felt as good as you actually the morning after surgery I couldn't believe I felt so good as I was expecting to be in much more pain. I was off all pain meds at 5 days.

After they removed packing etc I asked if I could shower and the nurse said she'd be back to take me but of course I was too independent and off I went and was that shower lovely...yep and I washed my hair as well. Then I was exhausted! So back to bed.

I was doing so well the next day doctor offered me early leave so I went home. When I got home I cooked a light meal for hubby and I and went to bed and left the cleaning to him. Too exhausted!

I did manage to do little things like fold clothes, iron clothes, cook meals and washup but I did stagger them so as not to over do it. I don't advocate people doing all this but for me I did well to stop myself doing more.

My doctor didn't have a problem as I was not lifting, sweeping or doing the vaccumning and I was taking it easy otherwise. However you really need to stick to your doctor's instructions otherwise you'll have him to deal with.

Take care..........Karen

1 week post op feeling good!!

I felt great 3 days post op but MADE myself take it easy. Just try not to push yourself to hard. And the sisters here will get you good of you don't take care of yourself. For each day I feel great, its 2 days that I don't. I would take this time and be a princess and like someone else posted - you only get one chance to heal the right way.

1 week post op feeling good!!

Congrats on quiting smoking! I hope you don't have to start again in order to rest!

Sounds like you have been busy but are promising to be good now! I don't think everyone meant to yell at you, I just think they were all concerned for your future health. It can be frustrating to feel well but be told to "stay in bed." I on the other hand, couldn't even stand up with out blacking out so my MIL was babysitting me and scolded me if I even got up to go to the bathroom without her help! That was against dr's orders for me! For reals!

Please do take care of yourself. I won't yell, as long as you promise to follow dr's orders from here on out!

Take care and I really am glad you feel great! That is wonderful!

1 week post op feeling good!!

I only scolded you because I would hate to see a thread started by you next week saying "help, I over did it, I am in pain". I was concerned for you while you were pre-op because you were so nervous and scared, and now that your post-op I am concerned also. Please take care of yourself. You don't want to form adhesions or risk breaking your stitches and hemmoraging (sp).

Take care hun!! Your time will go by fast, it may not seem like it now, but it will.

1 week post op feeling good!!

There is a balance. You don't and shouldn't have to sit around all day watching TV or reading (or smoking). I waited until I was off pain meds and ibuprofen before I started doing more. I have done very light cleaning and organizing. If anything is more than 10 pounds, I have someone else move it. I take frequent breaks to watch TV, read, take a nap, or just sit for a bit. I have not swept, mopped, or vacuumed, so with three cat, an inside Saint Bernard, two four-year-old boys, 20-year-old and 21-year-old nephews living with us, and my husband and me our floors are getting pretty nasty. At least I have three other adults to help, which they do as long as I ask. I also pay close attention to how I feel the next day. I have overdone it and needed to do nothing but rest the next day, which I did. I made sure I took more breaks after that, too. Although I can move pretty quickly, I intentionally move slowly and take my time with each task. This has helped me to keep active without injuring myself. Good luck to the rest of you in finding your balance!

Very well said... Lil_Pink! I couldn't agree with you more.

I am 13 days post op and am really starting to feel pretty good. I am still occasionally taking the pain meds. (percocet), but no more than every 12 hours or so. I find that if I take it before bed then I can actually sleep on my side! Boy have I missed that.

Yesterday and today were the first days that I actually really tried to do anything that even mimics housecleaning. It felt good, but like you said your body will tell you when to sit down and rest. All in good time!

Best Wishes to all!
