Feeling Good

It is day 8 after my lap assisted hysterectomy. I had the surgery at 7:00 AM and went home at 3:30 PM the same day.

No problems with pain during urination or bowel movement.

No pain except if I have to cough or if I sneeze.

I stayed home and rested a lot the first 6 days. On day 3 I even slept most of the whole day. On day 7 I went to get my hair cut, met a friend for lunch, went to get my nails done, a pedicure and my eye brows waxed. I then did a little clothes shopping and came home to meet my husband for a date to go out and eat supper.
On day 8 (today) a friend and I went to the local Casino (Yahoo she won $180.00) then we went to a movie and to the Mall shopping for her birthday present from me. We had a ball laughing because she is only 31 and 61/2 months pregnant and was complaining about how bad she felt and I kept saying did I tell you how great I feel.
Here I am 51 and just feeling so good. I had heavy frequent periods for the last 5 years with terrible cramps. I realized that the reason I feel so good is I don't have that constant pain in my lower abdomen all the time that was just wearing me out. It's gone.

I pray that all of you that are still recovering out there will take heart and know that you will feel better.

I hope you are still feeling well. I, too, was able to get out and do a few things early on. It sounds like you are doing activities that don't require a lot of movement, except to get to the locations, which is good. Are you still taking pain meds or ibuprofen? If so, you should probably slow down until you are off all meds. As others have mentioned in other threads, there are a lot of internal stitches that could tear while you are healing if you do too much. You may not feel anything while this damage is taking place. You could end up with extra internal adhesions that may or may not result in more pain in the future, but it's not worth taking the chance. Please move slowly and take extra good care of yourself right now. I hope you continue to feel this good throughout your entire healing process!!!

Feeling Good

I have not had any pain medication since day 3. I did take the pain pills doc prescribed as directed and it really helped to be able to rest comfortably. Sitting, walking and pushing shopping cart (not a lot in cart at one time) doesn't bother me. I am being careful not to lift anything of much weight. For example, I washed clothes yesterday but we have a tri level so I had my husband bring down the wash and after I folded I had him take them upstairs for me. He takes out the trash and I have a house keeper come in once a week so just have to keep things picked up and tidy in between. I am going back to work on Monday, day 10. It seems ironic but when I had my first child who is now 31 and 7 weeks pregnant with her first baby I went back to work full time when she was 10 days old. My Mother was the babysitter or I couldn't have left such a little one. But I had delivered without medication because I had taken the Lamaze Classes and felt in control. It went really well, no complications and I went home the next day. Now it seems that I have finally come full circle and am ready to take on the role of Grandma! I can't wait.
Don't worry about me taking care of myself for the first time in my life I am able to do most of the things I enjoy and I Thank God for that.

Awesome! I'm glad to hear that you are taking care of yourself while being active. I feel better now about how well you are doing. I've seen so many threads where woman have not been careful with normal activities and ones where they are already having sex! There is part of me that would like to do that, too, but the fear of tearing something and getting bacteria into my pelvic cavity stops me and my husband.

I'm doing very well, too. We just got back from the grocery store. I pushed one of the car/truck carts with my boys in it while my husband did the true grocery shopping. (On a very smooth surface it doesn't take but a fraction of the combined weight of the cart and the items in it to get the cart to move. I feel confident that I'm not overdoing it with just my boys in the cart when we are on a smooth surface. Like you said, you only put a small amount of items in the cart so you're probably fine, too. I think the warning is there so we aren't overloading the cart, doing the repetitive motion of putting items in and out, and carrying all of them into our homes later.) My husband pushed the boys over the carpeting, then I took over on the smooth tile. I always buy my boys a cookie and a small milk to enjoy while we get groceries (as long as they are behaving). So we followed DH through the grocery store and enjoyed ourselves.

I also had an awesome delivery, but mine is only 4 years old. No pain meds before, during, or after delivery. I found pregnancy (in vitro), labor, and delivery to be nothing compared to my periods and cramps. I only threw up twice during the entire pregnancy and it was when I ate something that didn't sound good. I threw up more going through the adoption process of our other 4-year-old son!

I have been active since coming home and have been going out doing short and light shopping trips since two weeks post-op. I don't fatigue as easily now, so I'm able to get a little more done at one time.

Congratulations on becoming a grandmother in mid 2006! I hope your daughter has as great of an experience as we had.

I am 11 days post op and feeling quite well. I stopped pain meds (already reduced prescription-tired of being in a fog) on day eight. my mind is ready to go out and have some fun, but I am trying to stay rested. It doesn't take much to put me back on the couch. Can't wait for normal! I am more worried about hrt. So far I feel relaxed, not moody, and no hot flashes. Does that
mean it is working? Nancey
