12 weeks post -op bloody discharge

Hi I am new to this site and stumbled upon it while looking for some answers to what I am experiencing. I am hoping someone else has had the same expeirience and can help me. I had my hysterectomy the end of August. I went to the doctor last week because I have been recently having this orange/brown colored discharge. My doctor checked me and didn't know what was causing it just said she did not think it was anything to worry about and she would see me again in a year for my annual check up. She sent me home with some anti bacterial vaginal cream which she said should eliminate the discharge. Well it has been a week since my check up and I still have it. I did mention to her that sometimes I have some mild pain or cramping on either side in my lower abdominal area ( mostly my right side)and she said that since I still have my ovaries I would still ovulate and and that is all it is and not to worry. I don't want to worry myself needlessly about nothing but would feel a little better if I knew this was normal and others have experienced it. Would appreciate your feedback or experiences.

Thanks

Do you still have a cervix? Many people post on this board about mini-periods due to still having ovaries and a cervix. The cervix is an extension of the uterus so that could explain things. Otherwise I don't see where that is normal. As the day progresses others with more knowledge will help you out.

No, I do not have a cervix. I had a total hysterectomy. I am 46 years old and was still having periods prior to my hysterectomy. The hysterectomy was done because of a large begnign tumor in the lining of my uterus which caused very painful heavy periods.

Hopefully we'll hear from some others here. I'm somewhat new so don't know everything you need to know, but others here do. I think you have cause to be concerned. But, I could be wrong. I just thought you had to have the cervix to still have such discharges. I agree the pain sounds like ovulation, but I don't understand what causes the bleeding. I hope you receive the help you need here. I know I have.

Hi.

I have had a strange discharge for the last 2 months and my doctor did the same thing and dismissed it as nothing and gave me a script for Bacteria vaginosis and told me that he would see me in a year.. Well it did Not go away and so I called my doctor again and they tried to get me to use betadine douches once a week for four weeks and if I wasnt better then I needed to come see them.. UGH.. Lets say I had some really nasty things to say to them and about the way that they were mistreating me and telling me to put random things in my vagina.. So they told me to come in to see them.. I had a small Rip in my vaginal cuff and he put some glue looking stuff on it and took some cultures.. Well 5 days later I was having a discharge again(The Doctors office called and said that my cultures came back and I didnt test for Bacteria, So I called on a different GYN and went to see her.. She took cultures and sent me for a CT Scan to see if maybe I have an abcess in either my belly or pelvis.. The NEWdoctors office called me back yesterday and I tested positive for Bacteria Vaginosis AGAIN.. "Wonder why the other doctor wasnt able to get the same results from a culture?"" Anyways I am waiting to hear back on the CT Scan, Hopefully we will know something more then... If I were you, which in this case "I kinda am", I would go see another doctor because your doctor is doing the same thing to you as mine did to me.. You dont just have discharge for no reason like that, make them get to the bottom of it.

Take Care!

Thanks..I agree with you, but my doctor acted like I was overeacting and it was nothing to worry about. I probably will call another Doctor if this continues, it is just hard to find a good one that takes the time to figure things out instead of dismissing you as an overeactive patient!

I just wanted to add to my original post that I have been reading a lot on this website about vaginal cuff tears and granulation. Sounds like that may be what I have, but wouldn't the doctor have noticed that when she did a vaginal examination last week????

My first Dr. told me nothing was wrong and that there was no granulation tissue, that the pain I had was all in my head! I found a new Dr. and saw him 2 days later, I had granulation tissue that covered my whole vaginal cuff. That was the cause for not only my pain but also the discharge I continued to have. Once treated with silver nitrate, I have been a NEW LADY!!

For those having unexplained discharge you may want to seek a second opinion....It saved me as I was at my wits end and very depressed with my ongoing medical issues!
