3 weeks & frustrated

Yesterday was my 3 week point post-op. I am also one of the people who's Dr really hasn't given much info on restrictions. I an so glad this site is here to help. I have days when i feel great & then i try & go for a short walk or tidy up the living room & I feel awful. I am having pains above where my incision is & below my belly button. Kind of like needles on the surface of my skin or maybe it is more of a burning sensation. Any one else have this type of pain? I get so tired so easy. I am not used to being Idle. I am scheduled to go back to work on Dec 16th which would be 6 weeks. i am going to ask the Dr to give me 8 weeks before going back. I really don't know if i will be up to sitting at a desk all day. I was just curious what 3 weeks was like for others who are here. I still have one ovary. Hoping not to have to take any hormones.........

Hi Summer36
Sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well. You are early in your recovery and should still be taking it easy. Your profile says you had TAH. The pains, numbness, pins and needles, and burning sensation at your incision site up to your belly button is pretty normal. But if it feels hot to touch (like a fever) that isn't good. It will start getting itchy too as the sensations come back into that area.
You don't say if you are still on narcotics for pain. If you are, it could be contributing to your "awful" feeling.
I am 7 1/2 weeks post-op and still get really tired. I don't go back to work until the new year

Hope you get to feeling better soon,
Autumn

3 weeks & frustrated

Hi Summer 36. I'm only 2 days ahead of you in recovery, and I have a lot of burning to one side of my vertical incision. From reading others posts, it seems like this might be nerves causing the sensation, as they were cut during surgery, or had pressure applied to them from retractors. It's almost like having a body part that has gone to sleep, then wakes up and has that "pins & needles" sensation. That's to the best of my understanding. I'm definitely going to mention it to the dr Friday for my 4 wk postop visit.
I am a surgical nurse, and have assisted in hundreds of hysterectomies, so I didn't have many questions of my dr pre-op; I just assumed I knew enough. Boy was I ever unprepared for all of the postop effects! I forget that I never see my patients after surgery, so I don't know what they go through. This has been an eye-opener, and definitely inspires me to inform other patients to research ahead of time, and ask-ask-ask- as many questions as necessary of the dr to prepare yourself pre-op!!

3 weeks & frustrated

I will be at the 3 week mark tomorrow. I must say that I am feeling great at this point. Never want to experience that first post op week again, but I really am feeling so good now that that is a distant memory now.

I am feeling the same aches and pains and weird sensations in the incision area that you are. I had a c-section in 1992 and I think that I remember the same type of sensations then. It is probably just all of those nerves and muscles healing. The numbness is the strangest of all, especially when it itches. The itching seems to be inside and I just can't get to it! Strange.

Anyway, we sound to be in the same boat. I am still taking Percocet maybe once per day and when that wears off I am exhausted as well!

We must remember that we are still very early in recovery and should expect to take one step forward and then two steps back!

I am right with you girlfriend! I will continue to ask to be pampered and maybe even milk it a bit, as I LOVE the attention!

My heart and prayers are with all of you for a safe, and easy recovery!
