TAH 30th Nov...need support and encouragement

I thought I was doing so well, even drove myself to pre-op appt this morning but arrived to find dr was at hospital deliverying babies and I have to return again at 3pm.....66m drive for nothing. Panic just struck me driving home and I had to pull over for a while. I could take a Xanax but cannot drive taking them. My TAH is due 30th Nov and I had 2 days in hospital last week on gamma globulin IV's to help my blood to clot proerly..so much preparation and am so scared. Dr did offer me not to have a GA if I felt more comfortable with that idea but I think I would be best totally out - any advice please? Thanks ladies

I have mine scheduled for the same day and like you, thought I was doing great. Had to opt out of work for tomorrow, scared and stressed. You are not alone in your worry!

TAH 30th Nov...need support and encouragement

Hi There,

What your going through is fairly much the normal course with being so scared and having mood swings about whether your doing the right thing. As far as having the GA for surgery I did and I think I wouldn't of been happy listening to them chat and ask for instruments but then you could always put headphones on with music I guess.

Now what you need to do for the next few days is gather your friends around and pamper yourself with morning teas etc, anything that takes your mind off surgery.

As you've possibly heard so often the wait is really the hardest part and the turmoil of wondering if your doing the right thing makes for many a sleepless night.

I'm 9 months post op and for me I have no regrets and I wish I'd done it sooner.

Stay positive..........Karen

Thank you Karen, good to hear from someone post-op. I have been putting this surgery off since May and suddenly it seems more scary again. I sure hope what everything says is correct, in that the waiting is the worst part. Thinking you are right, best to have GA and not see instruments flying around

TAH 30th Nov...need support and encouragement

Hi Leaf Lady,

Well guess we are in the same boat then...pity all us hyster-sisters with same day surgeries cannot book a whole ward in the same hospital and be there to support each other I think I will tell dr this afternoon and make sure as soon as I go in, that I get some anti-anxiety medication...just wish I could take some now. I think keeping busy helps and I rented some movies to try and occupy my mind the next two evenings. I wish you luck and will check with you on the other side and we can compare notes Hugs Dustysissy

TAH 30th Nov...need support and encouragement

Hi again,
This is an amazing support system I must say. I was surfing around this weekend looking up info (sometimes thinking that too much information isn't such a good thing) and came across this site. I feel sooo much better already! Just knowing there are others out there with the same thoughts and fears is a very good thing and calming in a way. I have been lining up my tv viewing for the next two nights and doing a lot of cleaning!!! I think tomorrow is going to be hard though being alone during the day and having to call for my surgery time...(they don't have the OR booked yet, one day in advance, so I am to call between 2:30-4:30 for my time) Keep your chin up and keep me posted ok? Cheers

You are having extra anxiety because it's getting closer, it's only natural!! I would take a Xanax whenever you need to (except when driving) and try to relax. You'll be okay!! As long as the doctor is aware of all your conditions-he'll be prepared for them and you'll be okay!!

I was totally freaking out in the final days leading up to my surgery and I made a point to pray and ask my friends and family for prayers and I got a lot of calming from that.

Also, try reading the Hyst-stories of others, it REALLY helps!

I'm wishing you the best and sending lots of calming your way!!

TAH 30th Nov...need support and encouragement

Hello Ladies:

Just wanted to add my two cents and say that the women here have provided me with so much support post-operatively. I wish that I would have known about it before my surgery.

I too was so anxious and the waiting was the hardest part of all! I am so glad that I had the surgery and feel so much better already!

Thanks to all!

had a tah bso on the 21st....I am feeling pretty good...one week today...got the staples out...all is pretty good except the swollen belly and that kind of pain...but for the most part....I was ex[ecting this to be pretty bad...my tonsil surgery was far worse then this... don't get me wrong, its not walk in the park...but I think if you go in with a postive attitude...you road to recovery will be easier
good luck...
