Help! Burning Urethra....
I am sooo confused I have signs of a UTI (just the burning and low back pain, no frequency or urgency).
I went to a urologist and he ran me through a battery of tests (including cystoscopy, cysto w/hydration, ultrasound, IVP, and a urine culture). No IC, no bacteria, no STD...nothing. I am scheduled to go back to my gyno to see if it could possibly be endo in the area.
What on earth could be causing this aweful burning??
Any suggestions?

Help! Burning Urethra....
Dana,
You poor thing! When did you have all the tests? Having the tests can cause irritation, too. Or, have you changed your diet at all to eating more acidic food? Sometimes what goes in comes out ouchy!!
Hope you find some answers,
Dee

Help! Burning Urethra....
I really feel for your pain - bladder stuff is sooo ouchy
Have you tried drinking cranberry juice? It is well known to help with bladder infections and irritations. My Mom's urologist told her to drink it for bladder health and I do if i start getting that "feeling".
Good luck on your tests

Help! Burning Urethra....
I have a constant burning urethra as well as vulva burning. I was diagnosed with vestibulitis. It's burning in your vestibule, of which the urethra is part of.

Help! Burning Urethra....
Thank goodness someone else has had this. I have had
the burning and throbbing the last month in my Urethra
and the low back pain. I went to the Dr. they said nothing showed up in the lab. But the next day I had
bad spasms just like with a UTI and had blood in my urine. I called my NP and she called me in something,
Sulfer. I took that for 10 days and was better. Then the
next time we had sex about 12 hrs later the Urethra
started throbbing and hurting, but didn't have the severe pain like the UTI. Went to Urologist said that
he didn't find infection (office test) but that has been
a month and every time we have sex the same thing
happens. Last weekend it happened (had sex Sat. a.m.) the next day ( Sun) I was hurting bad in the Urethra, but not having typical spasms. But I felt bad
in general, very tired, and back pain. I took just one
of the Sulfer pills, and went to bed early and was some
better the next day, and continued to feel better. I have been having sex for years and never had this problem. I have had occasional UTI's but this is different, it just seems to be in the Urethra, but I do
have the back pain.
But I don't know what is going on. I have heard that some women have to always take an antibiotic regiment
everytime they have sex. Yeah, then you have yeast.
I have a cystoscope scheduled the 12th but I am afraid
it will irritate things worse. Are you on hormones?
I am on a compound 5 estrol 60 progesterone, but I just have upped the progesterone for 30 to 60 this wk
maybe that will help. I have also thought maybe my
husband has something going on. Or maybe it is just
trauma from the sex. Is there a sex thing associated with
your pain? Help anyone! I am terrified to have sex again, this is so painful.

Help! Burning Urethra....
This is just a thought, but I use Premarin cream prescribed by my Urogyn which really helps with the burning, itchy, uncomfortable vaginal issues. I don't know if something like that might help with the urethra as well. This is a hormone cream you insert up in the vagina. He prescribed this after my prolapse surgery in January. From what I understand it does not interfere with the hormones you take orally. It might be worth asking about it.
Hope you all feel better soon!
Sherry

Help! Burning Urethra....
Thanks Miss Emma, but I have tried many times over
the last 5 yr.s to use the estrogen creams, and I always
end up with more itching and burning, feels like yeast.
As a matter of fact even the estrogen patch does the
same thing. I have tried it several times because I keep
hearing that this really helps, but as usual I am the opposite of everyone else. I have tried everything, it is
very frustrating. I am back on a larger dose of progesterone now, maybe this will help.

Help! Burning Urethra....
I am so sorry both of you are having such trouble with this. It makes you wonder if some kind of urethral prolapse might be going on, doesn't it? Have either of you had any type of transvaginal tape for urethral support? Just wondering if anything like that would be helpful to ask your urologist or gynecologist (or ideally urogynecologist) about.
My younger sister is one who has to take antibiotics every time she has sex because of infection but she doesn't get the yeast problems afterwards so she is lucky in that. Sending along extra S to both of you today........

Thanks for the information
Thanks to all for the great information
I am currently drinking cranberry juice and just today I started taking cranberry tablets.
I went to my pharmacy and asked if there was anything I could do for this aweful burning. The pharmasist told me to take Uristat. I took two earlier and my pain is much less. This stuff is great! He also told me that I can only take it for two days, but if it works, he said to ask my DR for a drug called Pyridium . He said that the med is for bladder spasms but also sooths the urethra.

What is a prolapse? I went through a lot of tests, but no one said anything about prolapse.
