Severe Joint Pain...Is this normal?
I'm 5 weeks post TAH/BSO. My Dr. has suggested I try not using HRT if possible since I have had very few hot flashes. I have had only 3-4 a week so far. (Although I had at least 12 yesterday!) My primary complaint is joint pain. I have suffered arthritis since I was 17 years old. Now it feels like EVERY joint is falling apart. I can't even pick up a glass of water my joints hurt so much. I'm worried I know how limiting my arthritis has been at times just in my knees. I have developed a high tolerance for pain in my knees. I hardly remembering them not feeling at least a little sore let alone who bad they hurt when the weather sets in. I feel now as though every joint is enflamed and my arthritis has spread to all my joints.
Is joint pain a common symptom of low estrogen? Will the pain subside?
To be honest I am willing to begin HRT just for the joint pain relief if this would help. I can handle the hot flashes but the joint pain is killing me. Can anyone help with info on my joint pain?

Severe Joint Pain...Is this normal?
GKnee,
I am unsure if it is estrogen related or not.
I am on an estrogen patch and have had pain in my R knee since about week 2 that was not there prior to surgery.
I think, some of it may be related to overcompensating for weak abdominal muscles due to the incision in the abdomen.
Will be interested to see what the other posts here say.

Severe Joint Pain...Is this normal?
Hi GKnee,
I'm sorry to hear you're having the joint pain and other problems. I can understand wanting to avoid the hrt if possible, but personally I think you have to look at how you feel and consider your quality of life in making this decision about hrt.
It sounds like you are miserable. I would suggest you go to the hormone jungle and start reading if you're considering talking to your dr about this. I think you would benefit a lot from looking at some of the discussions on this topic. I did a search on joint pain and came up with a lot of threads where women have discussed this problem and what they took to help it. I brought one to share with you here, but I hope you'll do the search and read some more.

I don't know how much you know about hormones but they are not all created equal. There is also a lot of helpful information in the Hormone Article List.
I think it is wise to be informed so we can share in making informative decisions on this with our drs. I hope you can find something that will help you here. Let us know what you decide and if you find a solution.

Severe Joint Pain...Is this normal?
I have had joint pain in the past, talked to dr. about it and I could have swore that he said something about low estrogen could contribute. Sorry we talked for 2 hrs that day and I don't remember everything. I would look into it, I know I will if my joint pain comes back.
