Diet post op

Im actually not sure if this has anything to do with my surgey, but I find that if I eat 'junk' or fatty type foods or generally have a little too much to eat I get horrible cramping. Im not on a diet, but just have cravings for fruit and veges and little else. Anyone else notice a change in eating habits?

i too have lost my appetite, and that's a good thing!!! i eat very little and also want fruits and veggies, things that seem refreshing only. i thought maybe my hormones made me eat more. but i still put on 3 lbs. it's only 6 days post-op so i know it's alot of swollen stuff but still am surprized. i lived on a liquid diet for 3 days, and was happy with that but felt like i must have lost weight, nope not yet...good luck

Funny you mention about gaining weight. I weighed myself pre op and when I came home (24 hrs post lap hyst) I weighed myself again and had put on half a stone!! Really I should have lost several pounds, what with not eating and having stuff removed!!

I know it must be all the swelling/gas as my tummy looks huge, so lets hope it goes down soon.

I don't have much of an appetite but hubby is bringing me food and I am trying to eat lots of fruit and veg to keep those bowels going!!
Who knows maybe I will eventually come out a few pounds lighter after all!

i'm just over 3 months post op and i have found my diet has changed too, chocolate, fizzy drinks, burgers, fries, pasta too! anything that is pre-made is making me bloated and giving me bowel probs (sry if tmi)

i'm having to cook everything from fresh, keep joking with DH saying they took my 'junk control' out and replaced it with a 'health freak' lol

i'm a stone lighter for it though i just wonder if my uterus was addicted to junk food and not me

love n blessings

ladys, i just had to eat a tuna salad at 9:00 in the morning...this is not me...i was a donut girl and now a donut would make me gag. i think our hormones craved sugar...this is awesome, i need to lose weight and i feel it is going to really happen without any deprivation... i love having all those hormones removed, i have no hot flashes and am on no hrt at all..i feel more balanced then i ever have...hmmmm maybe that sugar had something to do with it.....

I believe that our bodies give us certain cravings for what we are in need of to heal. All the above like fruits, veggies, someone had mention tuna, a good sorce of omega-3's are healing agents. I read an article on foods and the healing process, it recommends lots of protein, in the form of low fat meats, peanutbutter, eggs, etc. with all the fruits and veggies you can eat. I have lost around 8 lbs. since my surgery, I hope that I will feel like eating more soon, since I was the right weight before I had this surgery.
Anyhow ladies, it will all work out for us all, we are just in the healing zone. I will keep all in my prayers, take care, God bless.

Hi there ladies,

I'm also concern about the weight issue. I gained about 3 lbs after surgery and it kinda freaked me out. I didn't eat for 3 days - preop and after surgery, I gained? Wow! I guess it's all the IV's and swelling and other stuff. I don't crave for chocs and junks. I just eat soup, salad and fruits. I'll weigh myself on Monday, maybe I'll lose some pounds this time.

This site has been great. I couldn't imagine how scared I was when I learned I was having hysterectomy. I'm so glad I found this site! Thank's for all the kindness and emotional support.....

God bless you all,

Alou

I too had my tab bso nov. 28th and gained 3 lbs, after being on a liquid diet and losing all cravings, but i've just lost 2.5 of those pounds, actually the first day i ate real food the weight started to come off, so either our bodies went into starvation mode or it's the swelling which has gone down for sure. are you on hrt or are you having any smyptoms yet. last night was the first night i woke with headache and sweating but i think i may be fluish and not a hormone thing, i take nothing for hormones. thanks, Judy

Despite having a very large fibroid removed plus a large uterus (which must have weighed a fair amount) and hormone churning ovaries out, I have put on weight and can eat chocolate by the box full - so no change to my eating habits but now it's adding pounds whereas before it didn't.
