How long after you found out you had endometrial cancer did you have your hysterectomy. Just trying to get an idea of what to expect if it is positive.

for those with endometrial cancer
Hi sugrmack,
After having many tests (ultrasound, uterine biopsy, D & C, CT and MRI scans) which took about six weeks altogether to get all results, it finally showed that I had pre-cancer. Once this was confirmed, I waited two weeks and one day for my hyster.
I hope this helps.
What tests are you having?
Best wishes,
Geraldine

for those with endometrial cancer
I found out the 2-3 rd week in February after having had an ultrasound and a uterine biopsy. My doctor called me at home about 4 days after the biopsy and told me she found the ca. and felt it was early. She felt she'd gotten very good samplings and explained everything to me that night. I jokingly asked if I could wait until summer for the surgery...she said no. Thank god I didn't insist on waiting that long ONLY because the waiting would have killed me.I ended up having the surgery 6 weeks later. Sine my cancer was a low grade, I wasn't concerned about it moving fast, but I did need to make arrangements at work and home and so, I planned it that way. In hindsight..I'd have taken care of making all the arrangements within a much shorter time frame and getting the surgery done and out of the way much quicker. As you'll hear from the others..waiting is really to tough part. Do yourself a favor and get it done sooner than later. If you do have a lower grade, you do have time for a 2nd opinion, a referral to a gyn/onc if your aren't already seeing one and time get organized. It's often a slower growing cancer, but not one you can ignore. You also don't want to look back and wish "if only" you'd done it differently. Hope this helps.

for those with endometrial cancer
I had a hysteroscopy which showed EC. The next day my gyn called with an appointment with a gyn/onc for the following day. I went to that appointment and discussed the options with him. He was going to be away for over a week and I had a rather long-awaited vacation coming up. We made a deal -- if I could get all my tests done (CT scan and getting all the records transferred), he would "squeeze" me in for surgery on the following Saturday (8 days from the appointment). But he wouldn't have the opportunity to follow up in the hospital since he would be on his way out of town. But I would be healed enough to go on the vacation. So, from diagnosis to hyster was only 10 days. But it would normally have been over 3-4 weeks.

My cancer was in an early stage, I took my md's first available or appointment which was 2 or 3 weeks after diagnosis. I didn't want to or need to wait for anything. Diagnosis made via endometrial biopsy.

for those with endometrial cancer
I found out I had cancer 6 days after a D&C; the tumor actually prevented my GYN from doing a biopsy in his office because it had closed my cervix. It took another 6 days to see a GYN/ONC at a regional cancer centre and they were prepared to do the surgery 10 days later. Due to scheduling issues - they needed a longer surgery time window to take lymph nodes - I was delayed until after my DH and I went to the UK on a planned holiday. So, diagnosis received August 4th, hyst September 19th. If we hadn't been traveling, the surgery would have been September 2nd.
Good luck to you

Thankyou Ladies for the replies. Have had the ultrasound which showed advanced endometrial hyperplasia ans fibroids. The biopsi was done 4 days ago. Hoping to be able to get through Christmas and set surgery for the beginning of Jan. I know it will all hindge on what is found but your replies give me some idea. Will ask my surgion when she calls with the results.

I had a Pap in June which showed atypical glandular cells; this was done by my internist. Referral to a gyn took 3 weeks. Was diagnosed with EC 8/19 by endometrial biopsy. Referral to a gyn/onc took 3 weeks.
I begged him to do the surgery ASAP - they gave me their first cancel and it was out of me 9/21.

I didn't have surgery but gyn/onc seems to schedule it within a few weeks of diagnosis. I've had 3 of my checkup appointments changed because he was doing emergency pelvic surgery. If the cancer is found to be advanced, or growing quickly, he schedules the surgery within a week or 10 days. As much as I hate the schedule changes, I am glad to know that he has priorities right. My checkups can wait, some surgeries cannot.
Chances are you can schedule your surgery after Christmas.
Best,
Janie
