Pre-OP Tomorrow! Very nervous!

Wow only a few more days untill surgery. Now all I really need to do is stay healthy.
I have my pre-op tomorrow and I am nervous! I don't know why I am so nervous. I have had surgeries before.
What should i ask in a pre-op appt? I have a few things written down...
what kind of anesthesia? I am pretty sure I will have a general but I will ask again.
How long is the surgery?
What happens if they find out other things are wrong?

Is there anything else that I should ask? I am having an LSH.
I can't wait for all this to be over and to be healthy!
Anything that anyone can tell me will be much appreciated! Christine

Pre-OP Tomorrow! Very nervous!

I know how you feel. In my last waiting days, I drank orange juice and took a multi-vitamin. Washed my hands often and did not overeat at meals. I also ate very nutritiously. I tried very hard not to get sick also. I work with the public so it was hard to do that. As for my pre-op, it went very well and I became very "used" to the idea of surgery. All the jitters are back now though, I go in the morning!
Oh yeah....all the precautions I took worked! I'm not sick. Good luck

Pre-OP Tomorrow! Very nervous!

Hi CDallas,

I had a LSH also. As I remember from my pre-op, my Dr. had me fill out some forms and he went over the surgery again with me. I was weighed and had a quick pregnancy test - just in case. You might ask about a bowel prep. I did not have one. My Dr. just said to have a BM the day before. I was worried I wouldn't and I did. Also, I needed to have a blood test so they had my blood type on file. I agree with you on the staying healthy part. I tried to eat as healthyfully as possible the week before surgery. It really helped me to stay mentally, physically and emotionally ready-to-go.

Best wishes. I am very pleased with my LSH results and I hope you will be too.

Pre-OP Tomorrow! Very nervous!

I've had surgery in the past too. I think I'm nervous because I remember it. But, I took some advice of a hystersister. At the pre-op I asked the anesthetist to give me "a little something" beforehand to make me" dopey"and calm because of my "fear". He said he deifintely would. I also said the anesthetic made me and he said he would give me something in the OR for that too! (nerves!)

Pre-OP Tomorrow! Very nervous!

Seems like alot of people worry about mini-periods, you might want to ask the dr. about that. I was most worried about recovery and pain right after the surgery. It was much easier than expected. Maybe how long you will be in recovery and when you can go home. Also, some questions about what to expect from your incision sites, where they will be located and how you should care for them. Sorry I don't have a list of questions for you. I am sure with all of the LSH experiences out there you will get more. Best of luck.

Pre-OP Tomorrow! Very nervous!

Hi CDallas,

I agree with Voltown about asking about a mini-period. Big question!! I can suggest you ask your Dr. if he/she cauterizes the cervix. I had my cervix cauterized during my hyst and I have not had a mini-period and I am 18 months post-op now. If a Hyster Sister keeps one or both ovaries and the cervix, there is a chance of a mini-period in post-op.

One more thing to add - you might ask about pain medications. My Dr. wanted me to abstain from any over-the-counter pain medications before surgery since some medications can act as blood thinners.

Best wishes again,

Mary

Pre-OP Tomorrow! Very nervous!

I believe that there is a section on this site that has a list of questions that you may want to ask your doctor at pre-op!

I had a huge list of questions regarding my TAH that I had written down and ask every single one of them at my visit. He took the time to answer all of them for me! He's awesome!

No question is silly, so don't be afraid to ask them all!

Good Luck to you with your upcoming surgery. Please remember to keep us updated.

I will be thinking of you!
