Question about painful bowel movements

I am 7 days post-op. Not sure on your abbreviations, so I had a total vaginal hysterectomy and a bladder sling. Presenting problem was bowel problems. From ovulation to end of cycle I could not have a bowel movement. (3 weeks) Colonoscopy said colon no longer works due to nerve damage. Muscles won't push poo thru and colon is enlongated and stretched. Had diagnostic lap and ended up being operative. Took right ovary and tube. Then Dec. 14 took the rest. Worried about feeling sexy. About insides coming out. But with colon problems, really worried if they attached me to my colon. I am only 7 days post-op, but have very painful bms. (which started Sun) Is that normal? Painful bms?

Question about painful bowel movements

flip, maybe someone who has just recently had hysto can help. Mine is old news, but the bowel, and bladder problems continue. I mentioned in a post in this thread that I get a sensation of fullness in my vagina when I need to have a BM. I am emabarassed to say that it is a very stimulating feeling(sexuallyl i mean) . I never know what is going on, I'll start getting this feeling and then 30 minutes to a few hours later have a BM. most of the time I have to push my bm's out. By that I mean I have to take my figers and press on the perianal area and push the bowel out .Sometimes it just will not come out by itself. I had repair work done in april but the doc did not feel he could signafanlty help this.
Should I have someone else check this? I am thinking maybe this doc is wrong.

Question about painful bowel movements

Flip,

Yes, I think the painful BM is a total possibility at this point. I had painful ones for almost 3 weeks. It has just recently gotten better. I think that after the surgery and not going for awhile and them moving the bowels all over the place, they may be a little spastic/grumpy at all the action going on in there. They need to readjust and some people intestines don't mind letting you know they don't approve of said movement. With that being said, if you have any worries, please call your Doc to see if this is what he/she would concider normal. Always better to put the mind to rest if you have any worries, it's not like we should know what our bodies are "supposed" to be doing! Great luck and I sure hope you feel better soon. Honestly, in the begining I was using the prenatal birthing, breathing exercises when I had to poo. It was that painful. I must say, now they are uneventful and my bowels are happy to have a little extra room.

Hugs
Renee

Question about painful bowel movements

Hi flip2dawn and

We're happy you joined the Hystersisters community! I split your inquiry from the middle of another long thread started by another member, to give you your own thread, since you have your own unique question.

Painful or uncomfortable bowel movements are very common after a hysterectomy....it can take several weeks for functioning to feel "normal" again. But if you're very concerned about what you are experiencing, I think it would be a good idea to check with your doctor. Only he/she can determine for sure if something is amiss, or if you're just undergoing normal recovery.

Many s and Best Wishes,
