why is my discharge orangey/ pinkish/brownish?

***!! I am getting sick of this. 4 weeks post and I am getting this goo. It appears orange sometimes and then brownish or pinkish. Is this normal??? Gosh, I hope I don't have an infection. There is no foul smell and don't have a fever. What the heck is this? I have not really had any real bleeding. I sure hope someone else has experienced this!

Hi snapdragonMoe,
It isn't unusual to still have some discharge. You have stitches dissolving and depending on what color they are they often affect the color of the discharge. It sounds like you could be getting some of the old blood in it too. This is pretty normal too.
All of this said I would still suggest you call and talk to your dr's nurse about it. She might be able to reassure you on this and if its something to be concerned about she can tell you too so you can be seen.
I got a little tired of the discharge too, but it really does go away. You are just still healing up. I think about 7 weeks it was mostly gone for me. Let us know if you learn anything more about what is causing it.

My discharge had stopped. But, I've got cramping again, and much more discharge again. And, like yours, mine is orangey in color. That's the best way to describe it. The paper I got from my pre-op said to expect that around day 10, which it was for me, because of dissolving stitches. It also said to expect discharge for a few weeks. I'd like to know when exactly these stitches dissolve, because some of the posts in here seem to have them dissolving way past the day 10 mark? Are there different types maybe?

:xmas2:
There are different types. Some dissolve faster than others. I had a bright yellow discharge at 5 weeks from the stitches and still had to have a clear fishing line type stuff clipped out at 7 weeks. You could ask your drs what they used.

That's interesting. Thanks. Oh, as long as the discharge isn't urine, I don't care how long I have it! So far, it's not. Yay!

Do you all have a Vaginal Cuff? I have one but had TAH and I have had NO discharge at all. I have been wondering about that. And now I have a yeast infection! The swelling and itching is what got me to go in for it. Anyone NOT have any discharge?

I still have discharge at 5 1/2 weeks- have been told the stitches are still thre so could go on for another couple of weeks. have been told only to worry if-smelly, has clots, or is excessive. Sounds like you're ok but do ring and check anyhow.

My discharge has virtually stopped. I now have nothing more than I did pre-op. I kept my cervix, so I wonder if that has anything to do with it? Also, besides there being different types of dissolving stitches (there are only a couple that I know of), I think each person's body absorbs them differently and at different times. So it's really impossible to know exactly when they are gone, but the doctor can give you a general idea.
Perhaps that is why I have minimal discharge...my doctor told me I have very few stitches inside, less than usual. Hmmmm...
