Hi there

At 1 week post-op you are still very early in your recovery. At this point of recovery, the only exercise you should do is very moderate walking: now is not the time to plan a marathon. Other exercises should only be resumed when your doctor gives you the OK.

Here's a link to an article on walking post-op: http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/article_108929.htm

Walking is about the only exercise you should be doing at this point in your recovery. Slow, short walks. Don't rush things, healing takes time. Do check with your doctor before resuming or starting any exercise program. Only your doctor knows how your healing is progressing.

I am a walker, but have a word of advice for you - don't do too much too soon.
I was so keen not to loose my fitness that I did way too much early on and ended up exhausted. 6days post-op I began walking round our yard, then over the following weeks worked up to 2km a day BUT I was so tired. So at around 5wks post-op I decided to stop my walking, other than normal shopping, housework etc and gave in to recovery and rest. (I was resting anyway, but obviously not enough).

I began walking again this last week and today did 6km, and feel great.

Hi, my doctor told me to be active and to walk.
I walked or ran for exercise before surgery. I have
a half mile area on our street and have found it easy to walk a half mile there by day 5. today walked 2 miles, very easy pace. It is an area without any grade to it and the weather is 80 degrees so this is helpful.

Longwalks, I am so glad to hear that you're doing all that walking! I too am a runner/walker and am worried about losing my fitness and gaining weight during recovery. I hope to get walking right away; not a marathon or anything; but level incline, slowly on my treadmill (we have lots of snow outside!) Good luck and keep moving
