What is "full blown menopause" (if you don't take your HRT)? What is "full blown menopause" (if you don't take your HRT)?

What is "full blown menopause" (if you don't take your HRT)?

I am wondering what is "full blown menopause"--

I have been told that if I stop taking my HRT (3 mg estridiol) that my body will 'kick in' menopause mode, and supposedly do some serious damage.

I cannot afford my medications--even generics. (DimwitH lost his job, never told me. No, there is no money coming in. He refuses to get unemployment.)

I have talked to my OB/GYN & Nurse about this, and she has said she'd help. Nada.

I have given up hope. I am taking 'leftovers' (from times when the HRT didn't work, etc...desperate to take 'something'). The nurse doesn't like that approach, yet, I cannot do anything about it. I have done the pharmaceutical assistance route--you still need $$ to pay for your drugs.

The stress is killing me, and my body is loaded with so many different dosages of (various) hormones, I don't know what else to do...I am sure my body is paying more than its fair share of the 'price'.

I guess I have lost my faith.

Hi Elizabeth I'm sorry you are facing this difficult situation. Could you perhaps manage the generic estradiol if you didn't have to use so much of it at each dose? My thought would be that if you are doing OK on 3mg oral estradiol per day, you might be able to get by on between 1/2 to 1mg per day if you used it sublingually (let it dissolve under your tongue). Perhaps you could give that a try before deciding to stop completely?

The severity of surgical menopause symptoms varies among individuals. Many have intense hot flashes and night sweats that wake them up soaking in sweat. Other symptoms may include things like migraines, severe bone aches, insomnia, anxiety attacks, (in my case) very high blood pressure, depression and many others. There are also hidden problems like loss of bone density to consider.

If you decide to go without any HRT, please see a DR about not only symptom relief but also regular monitoring of your bone density. You may also want to visit our No-Hormone Desert Oasis forum to see how ladies there are dealing with their symptoms without HRT's.
