"Shelf" hanging over incision

How long will I have the "Shelf", or overhang that sits there just over my incision?

Hey Keke....in the search box for this site type in 'doc says to massage it' and it will show the very funny thread about what some of us call the 'banana'.......I would send you the link but I don't know how!

I suppose everyone is different. I had two c-sections. I was never able to fully get rid of the "roll". Remember they cut through muscle. I just had a TAH and of course the "roll" is there. I do not expect it ever to completely go away unless I save up $ for a tummy tuck. Sorry but that is what happened to me and alot of other women I know.

Mine has definitely gone away, although it took well over a year before it finally disappeared. I didn't do anything to help it along the way....it just slowly got smaller. There's definitely hope on this one!

"Shelf" hanging over incision

Hi Kim!
When my Nurse in the Castle, (((Ben))), took his first look at my incision, he said..."You have a really good doctor." At about 2 months post-op, when I finally had the guts to take a look at my incision for the first time and saw "the shelf" I remember asking myself, "How bad would it look if I hadn't had a really good doctor?"

Like (((Silverfern))), mine certainly took its leasurely time in disappearing, but it did eventually go away, after about a year, too. Hang in there!

Many s and Best Wishes,

I honestly think that 12 weeks is the magic number for everything. My "shelf" is gone ( oh goodness, it was HUGE in the beginning), swelly belly is under control and sex is painfree. I would never have believed it if someone tried to explain it to me before now.

For me, 12 weeks is the MAGIC number.

One of the handful of questions I'm going to ask my doctor when I see him on Tuesday afternoon is exactly that. (1) Is it possible to get rid of that bulging roll w/o surgery? (2) If yes, how? I'll let everyone know, either Tuesday evening or sometime Wednesday, what he told me.
