do I need to have my cervix removed?

Hi, I'm brand new at this wonderful site and have already found it amazingly helpful in preperation for my surgery 1/9!! I am having a TVH for a uterine prolapse. I will be keeping my ovaries. Is it recommended that I keep my cervix since it is healthy? Would there be any reason the Dr. might think to remove it? How many days do I need to stay in the hospital (I'm having an epidural)? And do I really need someone to be at the house with me for the first day when I get home? (My mom lives quite a distance away...)

Thanks so much! Hope I'm not asking too many questions!

do I need to have my cervix removed?

Hi mills207, and

We're happy to have you as a member of the Hystersisters community! I think that you will find answers to most of your questions here:

Pre-Op Checkpoints

From what I understand, with a vaginal hyst, the cervix is removed as part of the operation. If you have prolapse, your cervix isn't performing well anyway. You will need to check with your doctor for sure, of course.

Enjoy exploring the site and making friends. And Best Wishes for a successful surgery and uneventful recovery!

do I need to have my cervix removed?

I am also having a tvh because of a prolapsed uterus. My ob/gyn said that my cervix must go as it is not at the end of my vagina anymore and not really doing any good where it is! YIKES! When I told my best friend and snowmobiling buddy, she said she'd follow me from now on when we're riding; so she can pick up any parts that I may lose along the way! LOL I have hired a housekeeper for 8 weeks, will take 10 weeks off my job (just cuz I can!) and I will be in great hands with my husband, daughter in law and mom to look after my every need. Can't wait for this to be over with.
